Current crop of graphics cards compared, ranked by price {Engadget}

May 14th 2008 3:07PM Not sure if anyone has broken down how much it costs per FPS on each card, but I did and here are the results I came up with:

Top 3 (30+ FPS)
GeForce 9600 GT at $4.85 per frame
GeForce 8800 GT at $5.59 per frame
GeForce 8800 GTS 512 at $6.71 per frame

Top 3 (40+ FPS)
Radeon HD 3850 CF at $6.60 per frame
GeForce 9800 GTX at $7.56 per frame
Radeon HD 3870 x2 at $7.96 per frame

Top 3 (50+ FPS)
GeForce 9600 GT SLI at $5.93 per frame
Radeon HD 3870 CF at $6.60 per frame
GeForce 8800 GT SLI at $6.91 per frame

These are all calculated with the individual cards listed in the test. If you took the single cards and doubled them up your gonna see quite a bit of difference in the results.

PlayStation 3 firmware v1.92 out {Engadget}

Sep 4th 2007 5:59PM There are no movies out right now (DVD or Bluray) that cannot be played on the PS3, even if you are on the original firmware version. So you either misread the message as Mak pointed out or you are trying to cause some static for Sony, PS3 or/and Bluray. You could have come up with a more believable story as well.

First, you would have gotten a message about an available update even with a standard DVD, so its funny that you make sure to say it looks bad for Bluray. Second, firmware updates are a couple MBs at most and since the PS3 requires a broadband connection there is no way it should have taken anywhere near 45 minutes to download and install unless your ISP is that bad, in which case you should be pointing the blame at them. And if you had never updated the firmware the additional time over the standard 2-3 minutes for an update would basically have been your fault.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the X-Box 360, but I cannot see myself buying a system that has no real games to play that cannot also be played on a PC, which I already own (See GoW, which was every 360 owners response of why you have to get a 360). Add on top of that Microsoft themselves estimate the hardware failure on the 360 to be 1 in 3, which does not fill me full of confidence.

Logitech Cordless Precision for PlayStation 3 brings the rumble, forgets the motion {Engadget}

Jun 14th 2007 12:56PM @gibber9583

Just like any new feature it will take developers some time to incorporate the sensor motion smoothly into their games. For the moment tho, I use it in "The Godfather: Don Edition", where it is incorporated when you are roughing someone up for protection money. After you grab the person you move the controller forward to push them hard against a wall. Then it is all natural movements (back and forth to shake em up a little bit, left or right to throw them to the side). Also, "Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End" does a nice integration for some acrobatic movements. With R:FoM it is very limited as I have only seen one implementation of when you get grabbed you need to shake it to throw off the enemy.

All in all I think it has quite a bit of potential, once the developers begin to get creative.

World-crushing Xbox news turns out to be new Pac-Man mazes -- game on {Engadget}

Jun 5th 2007 7:07PM Everyone is missing the point. This is the first one by the original creator since the first one 26 years ago. The historic part is that: 1) he did the game and 2) He is officially retiring after this game.

Hacked Xbox 360 firmware prevents banning {Engadget}

May 31st 2007 1:24PM True but if MS responds to this, then the roles are reversed and then this becomes the tat and MS' next move the tit.
