Don't think about it in terms of battery life. Its a desktop replacement so an 'apples to apples' comparison would be to ask how long the UPS on your desktop lasts compared to the battery in this laptop. I spend my life touring with rock bands doing lighting. I've bought the Alienware M17x. it will be plugged in either on the tour bus, in a hotel or at the lighting dimmers where I have multiple 400amp 3phase supplies. I'm away from home for 8 months a year and I want to play games in my down time. If a machine like this suits your lifestyle buy it. Don't just ignorantly mouth off because it doesn't suit yours.
I bought the black version, the build quality is stunning, its let down by light bleed on the display and awful touchpad buttons. In the UK there is no difference between the black/silver price and the red price, but thats probably because they rip us off so much already. A spec that costs $3000 in US costs $5000 in the UK
The Spider is by the same people who did the "Sultans Elephant" a couple of years ago in London. It was awesome - check out youtube vid. This is going to be even better.
Until I read Dom's comment I hadn't even realised there were grey backgrounds, it all looked white until I folded the laptop screen right back. I really dislike being sent to the bottom of the comments page. It seems pointless to have to scroll all the way back to the top to read the comments. Unless of course you want to encourage more people to comment without bothering to read the comments that have already been posted. :(
With a 7 megapixel camera take a pic from 3 feet away and crop the image down to just the ipod, you will still get enough resolution to look better than that blurry image.
"All of these new nettops have me intrigued. I'm looking for a small, quiet and cheap PC to replace my aging tower in my home office, and all it really needs to do is load Microsoft Office, check email and surf the web. Is there a particular nettop that's better (or a better value) than another? I know it's a rather new segment, but hopefully someone has taken a chance on one already. Thanks!"
