I love their explanation: "due to an error". It's not really due to one, is it? It IS an error!
$9.2m for a 640x480 screen. Better start saving!
They won't honour it, of course...
So does this mean that people have to start dancing to make the lights and music come on?
Oh ffs. I thought the whole point of bluray was that it was region free anyway? Is that just the PS3 that's region free? well woop de doo!

Also, the person questioning the point of multi-region players- some videos -especially special editions- are only released in America or Japan or another specialised region, and holidaymakers can't use airport duty free shops in other contries for fear of their players being unable to use them.

Still, I see no reason to switch to bluray from DVD for the time being. the quality is almost identical to DVD if you have a nice DVD player and a normal sized TV.
To be fair, the main problem that it's easy for me to check for (the hotfixes in add/remove programs) is fixed in windows vista. I always wondered what the hotfixes were doing clogging up add/remove programs too!

Hopefully, MS will use the transition to 64 bit to turn their OS around. I really like Vista x64, and I don't think there should be a 32 bit version of 7. But that's another conversation I guess.
Ok, AMD. Show me a video that is more than 30 seconds long and isn't punctuated with extreme blurriness. THEN I'll be interested. Also, I fully believe the console statement. The only consoles to make an impact on the total power would be the PS3 and 360. They'd make up more than half of it easily. Everything else would be like adding more sand to the sahara.
bluray's dominance has little to do with it's capacity, tech specs, or even the ps3

one word: advertising. The only way I know HD-DVD even existed is because I read engadget. Not a single ad here in the uk mentioned HD-DVD EVEN IF IT WAS AN HD-DVD RELEASE!

conversely, all ps3 adverts were saying that bluray would massage your feet and suck you off or whatever, and it also got a massively high profile from entertainment ads, the logo often getting pride of place over regular DVD.

It's the same reason the ps3 will beat the xbox 360 here. fanboyism aside, The 360 is plainly better in objective tests (check out the side-by-side comparisons at eurogamer) but compared to sony's machine which pumps the ad machine HARD it never gets advertised.
you emphatically DO NOT have to pay microsoft a fee to play old xbox games on your 360, don't talk rubbish, James. The 360 is a great platform, and the PS3 is a good piece of hardware, but to buy the PS3 at the moment, when there are no really good games for it, and at a price of £425 (That's $850!) it's completely and utterly not worth it. This time next year, maybe, but not at the moment.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
