@ Mr. Scrip

Touche. Uncle E has never addressed this problem (despite everyone's vocal concern), and probably never will. We can all hope, though - right? Thanks for pointing that out; some of the reply blitz makes a lot more sense now. Or less sense, depending on your perspective I guess . . . good times.
I apologize,

Two more things I wanted to quickly cover.

1.) Stop replying to the top thread just to look cool. I know I did it, but seriously, I've never done that on any other story (and let's face it - I just did it here to try to prove a point). It sucks for everyone else who has to read your unrelated responses.

2.) I'm sorry if that post was in any way inflammatory . . . I love you all (well, a great majority of you anyway). Truth be told, I'm an apple fanboy, although, as a rationalist, I'm getting more pissed off by the day. I like everything (meaning XP, W7, Ubuntu (9.04 still isn't quite ready btw), and OSX) right now.
Hey guys,

So. How do I even begin? There are just far too many points to address that (for me at least) have been building up for a long, long time in my passive-aggressive soul. I'll attempt to articulate them as best as I can.

1.) I really, really need to get this off my chest. Holy mother-fing jeebus (as you'll find out, I'm a swearing proponent, and if I knew that the Big E's comments system would take those I would have said them normally), if I hear one more stupid a-hole ranting about the merits of his awesome W7 or Mac OSX or Jaunty or Fedora, I swear to my non-existent sister's life that I will switch over to Giz (yes, they suck, but quite frankly, their comments are WAY funnier than E's comments). You guys suck the soul right out of this place.

2.) What dumba** is confused or offended by this series of advertisements by MS? Seriously, the Get-A-Mac ads sucked (do suck?) just as much. Ultimately, Microsoft is a for-profit business, as is Apple, and their respective jobs are to fuc* all of you out of a few hundred $$ to benefit their shareholders . . . as are all publicly-traded companies. This is capitalism, sorry. Obviously they should be making products that are WORTH the $$ that they charge for them . . . but that is a basic supply / demand debate for another day.

3.) God dammit, you a-holes need to stop quoting figures out of your collective asses. I'm sorry, but someone needed to say that. Mac laptops are no more reliable than their Windows counterparts (Mac desktops, however, are a whole different story according to consumer reports*). So please, stop this meaningless back-and-forth. Use what you need to use to most effectively accomplish your task and keep your Faith to yourself.

4.) Most on point: these MS ads make me sick. I'm a strong believer in "you get what you pay for," and quite frankly the laptop this girl's paying for is just crappy for her available budget. I, as a rule, tend to stay away from "consumer-grade" stuff when I have the money to do so. With a $1,700 budget (and a nice BMW), she could've gotten a nice Dell Precision etc. that would've lasted her a lot longer, and would've given her more satisfactory performance throughout life of ownership. Honestly, if she's a law student, she should've at least considered getting a netbook with a good keyboard and a decent desktop (for the total price of one compact, full-featured notebook). That's my most fundamental problem with these ads (this goes for AAPL as well) - they treat consumers like the shi*-for-brains they are. Most of us Engadgeteers know what we want from our PCs (Macs are PCs as well), but the general public is pretty ignorant as a whole . . . and this ad preys on the ignorant and innocent. Ugh.

*That's what consumer reports said in 2007 / 2008, anyway.

Full disclosure: I have a MBP that I am VERY happy with, a self-built MSI desktop Windows 7 box that I am also VERY happy with, and a eee 901 MS XP that rocks (Jaunty sucked on both Wind and EEE, IMHO. Will try next release when Adobe stops being an as*hole - their Linux flash sucks).
@ Tiptup: As much as I share your sentiment that the MBA 2 is far from an ideal device, you do realize that you're describing the MacBook, right??
I had a nice pair of monitors . . . but someone took them from my room and used them for PAing an event while I was sleeping. That's the last time they worked - they blew them out. Didn't even buy me new ones or pay me back. God I was pissed! And sad. Don't I deserve new monitors, uncle Engadget? Please?
@ Wii60: "The only disadvantage is not being able to see the product in person before you buy."

But that's the beauty of YouTube! Pretty much everything I've ever wanted to buy has been unboxed and torn down on that site.
Either I'm blind...
or that's the biggest enter / return key I've EVER seen.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I love my little computing companion but I often find myself missing a full sized keyboard. I have been looking at several of these portable and flexible keyboards, but I can't seem to make up my mind about which I should buy. I don't want the keyboard to be overly expensive, but I want it to be good quality. Also, how difficult is it to type on these keyboards? Thanks!"
