Two hour battery life at that price? That's _almost_ as offensive as my MBP!!
@Chris Ziegler - any chance that engadget is working on a way to filter out devices based on the bands that they support? It would be interesting if this device comes to AT&T, which looks like it is happening. Problem is that AT&T had the iPhone as an exclusive for over two years - made a bunch of money and never made improvements to their network.
Their slogan for this phone should be "Because people can't see you throwing money out of your car window, we let you show them how you waste it in style"
@8steve8
I agree - it's about as interesting about Tiger Woods and his affairs... actually, Tiger is pretty interesting.

The JooJoo (not crazy about the name either) will be judged as harshly as every other device out there - proof is in the pudding. If it is junk, nobody will care how it got that way. If it is amazing, nobody will care how it got that way.
Very confusing market segment. You are calling this a tablet, yet it has a 5" screen. You call the Apple product (to-be-named) a tablet and it has a 10.1" screen. You call some products MIDs, others slates (because they have voice capabilities), then there is this ambiguous tablet group. The analyst that spoke about the Apple tablet also speaks to that device causing issues for sales of eReaders.

I think that eReaders will die out when true tablets (Joojoo, Apple) come out and can display HD video, surf the web, and display e-books. I also think that devices with a 5" screen should simply be called PMPs again - or MIDs like they were going to be called starting at CES in 2008.

Do you think this will get sorted out anytime soon?
@pbusardo
I think that this is the best response I have seen also. I have been thinking about adding a device in my master bedroom, but have not quite figured out what to do yet. I am thinking about a PS3 also, as it offers a lot of bang-for-the-buck @ $300.

As for Boxee on an ion 330 - does it really even work? I have an overclocked quad core that starts squealing when I run it - same with XBMC.
@Scape3d
Valid point, however you are assuming that the network will actually be available to send the message...

To quote Ron White, "You can't fix stupid"

Completely agree. This is a complete fail. Specs like this without something extra (ex. custom OS) at this price makes no sense.

People with extra money to burn (with no common sense) take notice - you can get this for the same price as a comparable netbook by signing up for the worst cellular carrier in the US for a two year commitment to a $60/month data plan (with a 5 GB limit!!!) - BTW, that makes the price $1740 over two years.

To quote Brennan, from the great movie Stepbrothers, "You are *(&%^*$% high!"
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"My father-in-law is heading back to school in the spring and wants a laptop for Christmas. The only catch is their budget is around $400 and he does not want a netbook. He's not very "tech savvy" at all and doesn't need a hoss of a machine (not that $400 could get you one). We would like to get it for him as soon as possible and would love some input."
