it is german but i think the pictures speak for themselves.
this concept was demonstrated on Hannover Fair 2009 and in Detroit aswell. The Idea is to charge EVs in front of shopping malls, traffic lights and special lanes on highways.

FUTUUUURE! :-D
amazing
In future , energy prices could depend on how much green energy is currently available, eg. if there is a lot of wind energy, your electricity meter will give a "go" to your tumble dryer and also to your car-charger.

ABB is developing so called "intelligent electricity meters" for a while now.
the problem with these ten inch computers is the touchpad. i tried it a few days ago but they are just too small! why don´t they put one of these thinkpad-like knobs in there?
*** they generate 700 Watt * hours when the sun is shining for one hour.
the solar panels generate 700 Watts when exposed to sunlight. that is POWER
they generate 700 Watt * hours that is ENERGY

Watt per hour is nonsense in this case.

get it?
OMG you are right!
And that would be the same for my tumble dryer, my cooking pot, an all these cooling towers the use for Power plants!!! And think about all the water evaporating from lakes and the sea because of the sun!
we are doomed. This has dramatic impact on the weather.
"the purpose of the car is not to make a better hybrid."
battery tech isn´t getting any better just by saying "we put another 150kg Laptop batteries into this car, look how cool that is" (it isn´t cool because adding weight is never cool. it is like adding three additional layers of ceramic heat shields to a space shuttle just because you are afraid that one layer is not enough. perhaps it works but it isn´t a smart solution.)
As there is no capable battery tech available, it just make more sense to put in a range extender instead. lighter, cheaper, more usable.

Tesla is great and electric drivetrains are great.

But spending $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on Laptop Batteries and denying the fact that this has nothing to do with serious car development is just dumb.
remove 1/2 of the battery an add a gas/E85 (whatever) powered range extender equals more range, higher acceptance, lower price.
"step aside" (get it?) UAVs, Laser equipped Hummers and alike. This is modern forces´ tech.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I love my little computing companion but I often find myself missing a full sized keyboard. I have been looking at several of these portable and flexible keyboards, but I can't seem to make up my mind about which I should buy. I don't want the keyboard to be overly expensive, but I want it to be good quality. Also, how difficult is it to type on these keyboards? Thanks!"
