Sprint's $130 Samsung Instinct twists free {Engadget}
Jun 20th 2008 3:49PM Ok, I just went to Best Buy to check out this phone. I played with it
for about 10 minutes. I should say, I'm a huge Apple fan and while I
don't own an iPhone, I don't think the iPhone can or will be beat.
Here are my first impressions:
- The form factor of the Instinct is REALLY nice. The rubberized back
is
definitely nice. It makes the phone feel more secure in your hand
because the rubber grips your hand. And, it looks quite classy. The
phone is weighted very nicely. It's not too light so it doesn't feel
like a toy.
- The interface menu items are actually really responsive. I didn't
have to hit a menu item more than once. While I didn't think it would
matter, the haptic feedback is a nice touch (yes, pun intended). It
actually helps you confirm what you pressed without questioning it.
One thing, the haptic feedback vibrates the entire time a menu is
scrolling up or down. This is a bit of a concern in regard to the
battery, as the battery will drain much faster with such frequent
vibration (the phone ships with two batteries though).
- The icons and overall asthetic theme to the phone is....ok. The
main menu which has all the big icons is kind of ugly in my opinion.
Once you dig deeper into the menus everything looks much better. When
I say much better, I mean it looks like the iPhone menu system. It's
too bad Samsung/Sprint couldn't come up with their own, good looking
interface but I supposed if you're going to copy anyone in terms of
desigh, it might as well be Apple.
- One thing I love about the iPhone/iPod Touch is the smooth
scrolling and transitions of lists and menus. While the Instinct's
buttons/menus are responsive, the scrolling is not. It's far from the
experiencing of scrolling through a long list of items on the iPhone.
It's responsive but it's sluggish. (The way I like to compare the
two: It's like playing a video game at 60 frames per second as
opposed to 30 frames per second. One is just much smoother). I
noticed something weird about the menu when you scroll. While the
scroll is happening, it's like each item in the list is it's own
entity. What I mean is that they sort of "come apart" from each other
during the scroll and then settle back once the scroll is finished. It
should be one big list that you're scrolling, not several items that
you're scrolling at once.
Overall, I was extremely impressed with the Instinct. I honestly
didn't expect much of anything from the phone based on all the videos
and articles I've seen and read. I was pleasantly surprised. Best Buy
didn't have the phone set up with their wireless network so I
couldn't test the browser. From everything I've read, it's not a good
experience, which is really too bad. But, if Opera Mobile runs on the
Instinct, this could be a great phone.

Palm Centro for Verizon unboxing and hands-on at Engadget Mobile {Engadget}
Jun 13th 2008 12:44AM I have the Palm on the Sprint network and I can honestly say it's a great phone. It's a Treo, but smaller. What else do you want or expect? I think the form factor is good as well. The OS may be old but why does that matter if it works? Seriously, what's the big deal about the OS? The way it looks? Really? Well, you can install software to make it look differently. Stop bitching about it already.
Firefox Mobile concept gets detailed on video {Engadget}
Jun 13th 2008 12:24AM You know what? Fuck that. Not for the iPhone. This should be for EVERY other phone. The iPhone already has Safari and it works fine. All other phones need this because while Opera Mini is great, it's still crash central.
I want to see this released for traditional phones (non-iPhone) first, then maybe iPhone. The spoiled kid iPhone can do without this for the time being. Palm, Samsung, Sanyo, HTC, Motorola, etc...need mobile Firefox love more than anyone else.
Samsung Instinct gets unboxed in someone's office {Engadget}
Jun 3rd 2008 3:39PM Sorry but I believe this phone will only be available with the "Simply Everything" plan which is $99. Honestly, you should get that plan anyway. It's the best cell phone plan available anywhere, by any carrier.
(sorry for the double post - i replied to the wrong person below)

Even more "leaked" 3G iPhone photos make it out {Engadget}
May 27th 2008 6:22PM @ AlphaDeltaVIII -
Why don't you believe a new MacBook will be announced at WWDC?

May 27th 2008 6:00PM White back? Nope, that's gross looking but I will say.....3G will kill everything else on the market. Hands down.
I don't have, or will be getting an iPhone anytime soon but I have been in the market for my first MacBook Pro. I'm PRAYING a new MacBook Pro will be announced at WWDC on June 9th. Does anyone think this will happen?
Sprint discontinuing Broadband Direct {Engadget}
May 19th 2008 2:29PM in reply to:
"yeah yeah @ May 19th 2008 2:00PM - yeah, didn't he just lay off 4000 more people?"
Yes, there were 4,000 lay offs and guess what? There's more coming. It sucks and no one likes it but that's what a company has to do if they're going try and turn things around. I don't know how people can't understand that. I think you do though....you're just playing dumb. It's ok to not like Sprint but look at the issue with some rational.
Sprint discontinuing Broadband Direct {Engadget}
May 19th 2008 1:01PM Eric M. and Wowzers - ummm...nope. Yes, Sprint isn't doing the best right now, but it's as expected. The Sprint/Nextel merger was a huge mistake (dumb decision by previous CEO) and Sprint's paying the price for that now. The new CEO, Dan Hesse, knows what he's doing. Keep talking trash but when WiMax hits you'll all be singing praise. Mark my words....mark my words.
