The Bill Day giveaway (part 4) - Windows Vista Ultimate {Engadget}
Jun 27th 2008 9:27PM I have found Microsoft Office 2007 to be one of the biggest innovations from Microsoft in quite a while. I find the ribbon to be a massive improvement in usability as compared to the toolbar and menu method of days past. My only wish is that they had thought of it sooner.

May 28th 2008 6:15PM Thinner display equals more space for other components and larger batteries which means longer run time.
Thinner displays in televisions equals easier mounting and lower shipping costs.
Thinner displays in computers equals more desk space (depending on how it's mounted or what kind of stand it's using.

The uplink and downlinks may be slow, but N would provide increased connection speeds between onsite clients. This could be crucial (or at the very least beneficial) depending on what you're you're using it for.

May 14th 2008 11:06AM The WRT54GL is a very capable (and cheaper) device that runs linux which can suit your needs as well. I run DD-WRT on mine, but there are several other alternatives as well.
Sarotech's Wizplatz W-31 looks like a book, isn't {Engadget}
May 13th 2008 4:34PM I could see that being done pretty easily (depending on the size of the book), with a gumstix board. The only trouble would be hiding the power adapters.If you can wire power into your bookshelf you're golden.
AT&T WiFi access now listed as "included" with iPhone {Engadget}
May 8th 2008 8:43AM The idea is that you're there (likely at a table), and you want to look something up online or check your email. Rather then go over edge, you get nice quick access over wifi.
There is of course the additional benefit of being able to download music while you're there too, but I don't see myself ever doing that.

It's unlikely that it will be Windows 98 compatible. I've found USB compatibility with 98 to be pretty much abysmal no matter where you go, but that's just my personal experience.
As far as your arcade games go, have you tried running them in compatibility mode? Right click on the executable or the shortcut and select in under the properties there should be a compatibility mode option.
You could also try a DOS emulator, or some free virtualization software to run Windows 98 on top of a newer operating system.
Xerox shows off "erasable paper," hopes to make it available next year {Engadget}
May 5th 2008 12:24PM The issue with regular pens is that
1.) They don't disappear in 24 hours
2.) The can dent/scratch the coating on the paper which inhibits its own natural erasing ability
3.) They indent the paper, so that even if the ink is gone, you can still tell what has been written. This technique is seen fairly commonly because it works not just on the original sheet, but in a notepad or notebook, you can tell what was written on a page that has been removed.
Since this seems to be specifically for security purposes (any other reason for 24 hour disappear time?), those issues are ones that would likely need to be resolved.
Russia wants all WiFi devices to be registered {Engadget}
Apr 15th 2008 11:27PM I have to wonder how they're going to identify these devices. Mac addresses can be spoofed, and that's the only thing that can really be traced with any sort of accuracy.

Apr 15th 2008 4:55PM Both cables are there, they just run parallel to each other. Look at the picture closely and you can see the gap.
