@Shyam, lots of varied operations are done with scientific supercomputers, including extremely large matrix inversion and repetitive vector calculations. Vector processors excel at these operations. It all depends on what you're trying to accomplish... using the right tool is important, but there is definitely a place for this technology in high performance computing.
@creepinshadow, re: "business lounge of an airport"
I generally find that it is exactly the people who do more business travel than necessary and cannot stop working even while traveling that believe themselves to be too important. The vast majority of business travel is an unnecessary waste of resources. In almost all cases, the use of corporate planes is a waste of resources, but when someone's time is valued at millions per year it becomes 'cheaper' to have them travel than to pseudo-delegate and still control everything anyway (because they are so important).
Might be worth jailbreaking, but you can get at least a splashscreen (not really wallpaper) without the jailbreak. I set mine as a graphic with my face, email, and other phone number on it in (possibly vain) hope that someone would return my lost phone. You never know, it might help!
Sure, it might be more clear if it was referred to as iPod Touch G3 for gen-3 but of course that adds confusion with the Android G1... so overlap of acronyms is just a 'here to stay' problem we have to deal with.
Wow. Talk about a complete misunderstanding of the complexity of what is accomplished here. Zorn you take the cake as 'braindead user knowitall' here today. Things don't work perfectly... therefore it must be crap, otherwise it would work perfectly like you certainly could make possible but choose not to.
You should NOT update to 3.1.2 and then use this jailbreak (again... do NOT). This would break your unlocked phone unless it is factory unlocked. Stick with what you have until a 3.1.2 compatible unlock is available as well as the jailbreak.
I stake my e-reputation on the fact that Apple does not allow background processes for one simple reason: AT&T is worried about their failing network getting slogged by the background transfers/feeds/streams/etc. Running background Pandora radio for instance, while surfing the intarwebs.
@Uraha, define 'smartphone'.
@Magallanes, I'm definitely a geek and admit to it, no longer make time for gaming, and own no consoles... none at all. Three strikes!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
