I would agree with you, if it wasn't for those "what if" emergency cases where a cell phone is a life saver.

I'm sure you'd be thinking "damn.. I wish I had a cell phone right now" when your car breaks down miles from anywhere on a road with little or no traffic.

Not to mention, having to search for blocks before you find a payphone is a pain in the @ss.

I personally don't understand how anyone in todays society doesn't have one. Example.. I ran into an elderly couple the other day who were searching for an address near my office, which is in the middle of an industrial area (i.e. No Payphones). They aproached me and asked if they could make a call on my cell. I graciously let them. While dialing the old man looked at me and said "Never had one of these you know. I don't need one."

I laughed to myself as he continued his call.

I felt the same way as he did, until I got my first cell phone. I don't talk on it while driving or any of that crap. I use it for work every now and then, but it has been a life saver so far.
Are people still lining up for this crap..!!??

People.. the bloody phone will be there tomorrow, next week, next month.. hell by then ther'll be a new one. Why stand in line for hours? I assume none of these people have lives/jobs.. however that leaves the unanswered question of how they afford all their Icrap..

iDrugs..? iProstitution..? iwillneverunderstandthesepeople....

See, the thing a lot of the fanboys are missing is that, out of the 30 apps for the pre, all 30 are probably useful. On the other hand out of the 50000 Iphone apps, there are what.. 5% at the most that are actually useful/produtive and another 5-10% are being produced to fill the gaps in the Iphone's basic functionality.

Now before some jerkoff jumps down my throat, I'm only guessing numbers here. I have no idea if all 30 apps are useful. However considering Palm's past and Apple's current catalog of Ibeer, Iflashlight, I-whatever-useless-crap-you-can-think-of-to-make-a-buck. I don't believe I'm that far off.
Ah man.. does that mean no Canadian entries?
From my post further down;

Micro Express.

Who?

I'll repeat, Micro Express. Rated as one of the top power laptops by PC world (beating the MBP BTW).

You can custom desing a laptop with them for much less than what some other cmpanies are charging.

I forgot to mention, the HDD is 7200rpm and it also has 2 built in mics and a built in 2mp webcam.
I totally disagree with everyone saying Macbook Pro.

First off, He said UNDER 2K, not way over 2k and to do what he wants for under 2k is nigh impossible with apple's offerings, considering he would have to buy the laptop, parallels or bootcamp, plus a copy of windows. Cause as much as the fanboys like to beleive that OSX is the end all OS of OSs, it isn't. In order IMO to have a fully featured Macbook, you NEED windows.

My recomendation;

I've been using one for about a year now and I'm a person who demands a lot from his laptop. I have to say, hands down, that this is the best and smoothest laptop I've ever used. I'd like to note that my config is about 500$ more (cause I added some sweet custom upgrades).

I do video editing, PS (PS opens in about 3 sec, which blew my mind), web desing, PPT desing, hell almost anything in multimedia. Oh 3D rendering with Carrara is actually faster on my laptop then on my desktop (strange), but I could live with it being a bit faster. Anyway, my point is that this machine is a great all purpose laptop and it's actually replaced my desktop for me.
It has a lot of great features, but the price isn't right.

I wanna see the Dash, with a built in media player, external SDHC, audio/vid output and no monthly fee for 300$

Now there is a killer product. Hell I'd buy any GPS that had all of that, as long as it worked well.

Harmon Kardon made a model a couple years back that was fantasic, it had all of these features (SD slot at time). it was arond 300$ (can get it for about 150$ now) only problem was that they never supported it so the product went under.
Icar...lol. So will they follow suit and not allow you to change the oil or fill the gas yourself? Oh I know, the first model will have a max speed of 55mph and then two weeks later release a "newer" model that does 65. I guess it'll take Igas too, which is basically gas but 2$ more a gal. Which you'll purchase at the Applestation. Oh and it'll probably cost upwards of 50k to buy the car in the first place, but Macfans will buy anything as long as it has a Apple logo.
I find it amusing how if it doesn't have an apple logo on it, Macfans find it ugly.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I am looking for a device that will stream sound from one source to several recipients. For example, I want to stream sound from my TV or stereo to my phone or MP3 player that has radio and Bluetooth capabilities. I have looked into radio transmitters and they seem like a decent choice, but I can't find one that uses external power (USB or from the plug) and I would want one with a transmit range of around 50 meters. Thanks!"
