David Pogue on iMovie '08: "What the [bleep]!" {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Aug 17th 2007 2:26PM Here's an example of how "easy" audio "editing" is in iMovie '08:

Editing audio levels in iMovie '08:
1) Click to select track.
2) Click volume adjust button. (opens dialog box)
3) Adjust slider.
4) Click Done.
(Must be done at the clip level.)

Editing audio levels in iMovie '06:
1) Drag rubberband.
2) There is no step 2.
(Can be done at will throughout the timeline for the entire movie)

Gotta love extra clicks and dialog boxes to do something that used to require a single click. The way '08 does this is neither easy nor is it an improvement over '06.

Aug 17th 2007 1:21PM FCE requires 500MB for apps and 16GB for Soundtrack and LiveType stuff. It's not a suitable replacement for iMovie.

Claiming that people who enjoyed the features of '06 are whiners who should pony up $300 for a program that is insanely complex is weak at best.

The loss of rubberbanding/waveforms is a big deal. If I hated '08 entirely i wouldn't care at all. I just think it could be a lot better if they add some things back in (specifically rubberbanding/waveforms/splitting audio in a timeline).

Doesn't make me a whiner, and it doesn't mean I should have to use FCE (which I own but never use because it's huge and cumbersome). The gap between iMovie and FCE is not the tiny baby step that people make it out to be.

Giveaway: have an iPhone on us! {Engadget}

Jun 30th 2007 10:14AM Give me an excuse to ditch Sprint. The expense of an iPhone + the cost of canceling Sprint mean I won't be in the market for an iPhone until 2009. Also, I wouldn't exactly miss the kludge of a sync system I have to use to sync my Treo 650 with my Mac.

Why Grey's Anatomy's fans hate the spin-off {TV Squad}

May 7th 2007 1:54PM It feels like they had a mediocre show idea that wasn't really all that interesting rotting on the shelf. Probably even had a generic title like... I don't know "Private Practice". Instead of keeping it shelved they got greedy and came up with the genius idea of making it noteworthy by sticking Addison's character in it.

Ditto #11. This thing started as if we already knew all the characters, not just Addison. It could end up being decent I guess, but good grief was that a rocky start.

How I Met Your Mother co-creator: "There's going to be a wedding." {TV Squad}

Jan 30th 2007 6:49PM If the creators are reading this, I'd love to see a return of the Cock-a-mouse even if only for a second. That one still makes me laugh everytime I think about it. The Slapbet/Robin Sparkles espisode may be the gold standard for this show though. Pure genius.

Heroes: Fallout {TV Squad}

Dec 6th 2006 11:00AM When Future Hiro stopped the subway to talk to Peter he said "I didn't recognize you without the scar."

Doesn't this pretty much assure that Peter either won't blow up, or that he is seeing the vision from someone else's perspective.
