In recent weeks several hacks/exploits have been published allowing root access to the IMTs, and also allowing firmwares to be downgraded at will (useful because older firmwares have more vulnerabilities).

So really I think Archos has just decided to do the simplest thing (open the device) and claim credit for the idea, rather than waste resources in a cat/mouse firmware battle with the hackers.
This product does not exist, it is a photoshop posted on a Chinese forum.
Its got two SD card slots for expansion. And just because it is capable of 1080p playback doesnt mean you HAVE to load it up with those. The advantage is that if you have downloaded a 1080p movie and are running out the door, you can load it on and play it without having to have spent hours re-encoding it in advance.

Put it a couple of 16GB cards (or 32GB when the price drops) in there and you'll store a nice mixture of SD and HD content.

Nothing sad about it mate. Ive given an honest counter-opinion to Nilays exaggerated claims of 'better than PSP' graphics, and ive taken a quick snap for you to show im not a Zune basher. I own one.

Anyone who thinks this is 'super smooth' or has 'quite possibly better' graphics than PSP titles obviously hasn't played GT PSP.

Yeah. I have a ZuneHD and a PSP and have to agree. PGR:FE is neat (and free!) but it's silly to say the graphics are 'quite possibly better' than PSP titles. As you say, even Ridge Racer (2004) looks better. And compare GT PSP running at 60fps to this game which appears to me to be under 20fps most of the time.

I am not really interested in tilt-racers. Its hard to control this game because the sensor only detects tilts in large jerky steps, and also the view tilts so that your FOV gets very narrow when you are trying to steer around a corner.
Yeah, youre right, I downloaded it and its pretty choppy in reality. Its great for a PMP but when GT PSP is running at 60fps I don't know how he can say PGR is 'super smooth'.
@Matt, @Koala : The framerate is very poor, definitely 15FPS or less. I can see it on my Zune, and I can see it pretty clearly on the video also. You guys must be blind.

@ PedoJokerBear: PWNT.

Ive got the game right here and the graphics ARE NOT on par with a good PSP game. Even a launch title like Ridge Racer (2004) looks better. The framerate is choppy, probably 10-15FPS, and the controls are jerky.

Its a free game so im not complaining, but lets be honest about it.

I'd like to see useful apps rather than crappy touchscreen games.
Project Gotham is rubbish, crap controls and graphics worse than a 5yr old PSP launch game.

I couldn't care less about games, i'd really like to see some apps that use the wi-fi to access movies or music from a media server etc.
Wait, they don't even give the price in the linked article. The €90 was for the predecessor.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What is the best wireless surround sound speaker solution? I have a home theater where running wires is just not feasible. I have my own speakers, so I don't want a system that has speakers with integrated wireless. I've done a far amount of research and have only come across a few companies that even offer a reasonable solution: KEF, Kenwood and Rocketfish. Is there anything else out there? What do you recommend? Thank you!"
