"It's no secret that SSDs tend to get all choked up around current-gen USB or Firewire connections"

It's also no secret that current gen ROTATIONAL hard drives get choked up arpund current-gen USB and Firewire connections.

But since only in a very few instances do even current-gen SSD drives get "choked up around" SATA connections, why not just use eSATA instead for your portable drive?

Most newer laptops are coming with eSATA ports, as well as desktops, and you can power a 2.5 inch eSATA enclosure with a single USB 2.0 port.

Seems to me if I'm going to have to spend money on a super speedy external SSD drive, I might as well use an interace my computer already has.......

Since the relative speed difference is negligible in current gen tech........

Hmmm let me guess......

no one that thinks this is a good idea actually uses Office type applications in day to day life.

Because if they did they would realize that most users who work in those type apps leave their hands on the keyboard as much as possible and would most likely use keyboard shortcuts instead.

this is a self contained card.
that plugs into a PCIe x4 card slot.
and utilizes the PCIe bus instead of a sata interface.

and it has it's own onboard controller.
a laptop?
did you look at the product?

how many laptops have a PCIe X4 half height card slot available?

yes, but then again, so did the vista one.

I'm using an MS remote and a Harmony remote and both work.
now you know why most of the companies making extenders decided to ditch them.

they were a bastard child that was treated worse than the tv pack was.

funny.
i think you misrepresented the number of books available from Sony.

After all, they already have the Google eBooks available for direct download in the Sony eBook Store.
From this page:http://ebookstore.sony.com/google-ebooks/
"Together with Google, Sony brings you access to over a million public domain books for free. Now you can search, browse, and read over a million public domain books preserved by the world's great libraries on your Sony Reader"

so i would guess the number is a bit higher than 100,000 after all...........

i bought my dell studio hybrid with blu ray drive for sub $500 from the Dell Outlet.

it was cheaper and more powerful, and has low power consumption.

wow.....

grammar fail.

the funny part is that people are forgetting all of the things this laptop can have.
inductive charging - Which exact Apple/Lenovo/Other model has that again?
Dual wifi cards - Again, which Apple/Lenovo/Other laptop has that?
An instant on OS running on a different CPU that can allow extended run times - Again, which one?
A built in a UWB radio for communicating with an optional wireless base dock - Oops, again which one?

This isn't just a fancy thin laptop, it has some features (including a multi-touch trackpad) that aren't exactly standard on regular laptops (yes Apple has one, i know).

This thing is designed to be cutting edge, which isn't exactly something Dell is known for.

For that I applaud them.

For once, it's someone other than Apple that is bringing the new gadgets to the party.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"My father-in-law is heading back to school in the spring and wants a laptop for Christmas. The only catch is their budget is around $400 and he does not want a netbook. He's not very "tech savvy" at all and doesn't need a hoss of a machine (not that $400 could get you one). We would like to get it for him as soon as possible and would love some input."
