Elecom's Scope Node precision mouse - it's precise, but only in Japan {Engadget}

Mar 17th 2009 12:08PM When you are doing short wrist movements from side to side, the mouse is also turning around itself. What you are saying only holds true if the mouse is always pointing in exactly the same direction. Pretty much any natural mouse movement has a slight twisting motion so yeah, you are totally wrong.

HTC debuts new Touch Cruise phone with 'Footprints' geotagging {Engadget}

Jan 22nd 2009 2:31PM What exactly do you mean? It's not been released yet, how did it fail? And exactly what did it fail at? I can only assume you mean market share, and let me inform you that it has never been HTC's goal to make a single uber-phone to outsell the insanely well marketed iphone. HTC is probably the most diversifying cellphone company of all, so why would you ever even draw the comparison? It makes zero sense..

Also, this particular phone is actually a mid-range smartphone, so it's not even in the same segment as the iphone. So what could possibly explain your strange desire to even mention the iphone? What simple, one dimensional way of thought could lead to this?

BTW if this guy is a troll, pretend I am talking to all the people who actually think like he seems to. (this includes the majority of engadget editors)

If you want a proper grasp of the cellphone market, do yourself a favor and actually read mobile-review.com.

Jan 21st 2009 12:55PM Wow, what a dud. Last-gen speed, last gen price. What the hell?

Look at the G.skill titan 256 gb for $500. With almost 200 mb/s read /write.

Jan 17th 2009 1:33PM Umm, RS-232 is a communication standard, it doesn't describe what port we are talking about. For instance, you can easily have RS-232 over a USB port. What they are probable talking about is a DB9 port, in layman's terms: A 9 channel serial com port. Actually, it probably doesn't even use RS-232 but rather the higher speed version, RS-232-E.

Palm Pre Touchstone eyes-on {Engadget}

Jan 13th 2009 9:38AM First of all, cell phone reception has everything to do with magnetic fields. The earth's magnetic field is static; it will not induce a current in conductors, but it will polarize them. A cell phone signal is an alternating magnetic field at high frequency - but not high enough frequency to induce a current in water. This is why cell phones and this charger are harmless to humans, and why microwave ovens will boil you from the inside :)

From maxwell's equations you will find that a changing magnetic field induces a current in conductors due to boundary conditions. That is the main problem with wireless charging, you will create a substantial current in ALL electronics around that electromagnetic field (the field cannot be directed in any significant way).
It is also the foundation of wireless charging, in that when you place two coils close to eachother, an alternating current in one coil will cause an alternating current in the other coil, thus creating a transformer - a rather old invention, proving that Andreas is an arrogant ass that knows nothing about electromagnetics. Oh and yeah, wireless charging has been used for years in toothbrushes and shavers.

I agree with you completely RamJaw, this is just a useless gimmick. The only reason that it hasn't been used yet is that it is such a useless gimmick. Oh and it's also notoriously ineffective, producing a large amount of heat in the charger and in the phone.
