Canonical and the Ubuntu community have plans for a Software Center (Centre if you're across the pond!) which will eventually be capable of offering commercial software alongside open source and free stuff. Frankly, I suspect that Windows and Ubuntu are starting to converge a bit.

Windows is moving towards a more Linuxesque system with automatic driver downloads, device stage, and has access to services like Steam for buying games online while Ubuntu will soon have facilities for commercial software in the repositories in addition to the free stuff. I suspect one day in the not too distant future no one - Linux or Windows - will install software with CDs or DVDs.
Apple industrial design has always been very attractive since Ive joined Apple (except those original fruity iMacs). I'm not an Apple fan but I give them props there! If only they would get off the mirror-like displays I might actually consider buying something....
""heat-sensing strip on the lip that, when swiped with a finger, glows white and automatically opens the aluminum lid." "

That's just dumb.
Honestly, what could you possibly need DX10 for on a netbook? You aren't playing games with details set high enough to notice any difference. Windows 7 doesn't require a DX10 GPU. Why not get a DX9 card that is cheaper and more power efficient? I honestly don't how DX10 provides any benefit for netbook use.
You didn't read the article did you?
Except for battery life
LOL. People don't listen to MP3 players at their default volume. They crank it as loud as they want or need (public transportation can be rather noisy). What would be far more useful is a visual display of decibel level so listeners can make informed listening decisions.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"What's the best gaming laptop for under 1,500 bucks? I had my eye on the P7805u (Gateway), but it seems Best Buy has run out for the time being. Also, as a secondary question, I like the specs on brands such as iBUYPOWER and CyberPower and the like, but are they reliable? I'm a little worried about buying labels that aren't huge like Dell, Gateway, etc. Thanks!"
