For as far as i know, all the larger flash memories out there are nand flash. Even the high end SSD's. And thats good, since Nand flash is waaaaaay cheaper than nor flash, And OS'es usually access disk in a per-page fashion. Nor flash is huge, expensive, and only used when per-bit access is really needed.
In Europe PB is still quite active. Most computer stores have a whole bunch of PB laptops on display. Mostly they pack pretty decent hardware for a good price. But they look plastic-ish. My sister own one, and she never had a problem with it. Right before the whole netbook hype, they had 12" laptops with intel core 2 duo T3200, 3gigabytes of ram, and ATI graphics for about 600€, which would have been really interesting for all those people out there wanting a netbook with a more powerfull atom processor, and ION graphics...
@Levi: I don't know how you're experiencing it, but vista is not unoptimized code layered on top of winXP. WinXP is NT v5.1. For vista, they have rewritten a whole lot, and named the resulting kernel NT v6.0. This is exactly why there were so many compatibility issues. With Windows7, they took the vista kernel, en applied some optimisations, an fixed some issues. The result is kernel NT v6.1. The reason why people will be experiencing a smooth transition to windows 7, is because by now, developers have had the time to adjust, and make there programs and drivers decently compatible to this new kernel version.
I don't have a technet of msdn subscription, but i'd really like to check out the beta. Does anyone know at what time on 9 january the beta will be publically released? (I'm in Belgium, so i'd need GMT or a locale on that time or something). Or do you guys think 2.5mil keys will be more than enough for everyone to go around?
Indeed it doesn't. Your iPhone doesn't have an FM transmitter and a cigarette adapter built in... Also, your iPhone costs more than 500€, whereas this thing costs 20€. Get the idea?
I find this a very usefull device. Makes a nice addition to the standard car radio for those who prefer not lugging around a shitload of cd's, and lack a car radio with mp3 support. And if you're not sure about the life expectency of these cheap ass products, you could just buy 2 of these things.
The only problem with this is that it will only extract the jpeg tumbnail from the raw file. So, yeah you can zoom and pan around the picture, but in terms of sharpness, it won't be any better than the preview on your DSLR screen.
So you unfortunately still can't check the focus or sharpness of the final picture with this...
"I am looking for a 12- or 13-inch ultraportable that can also play modern games at a reasonable level, for less than $1,000. I know the brainiacs out there can help me out. Love the site, thanks!"
