Where in the world is the most expensive cup of coffee? {Slashfood}
Aug 17th 2008 6:02AM In Beijing, I once drank a $5 dollar Starbucks latte (which cost more than half the daily pay of the per capita income of the average Chinese worker). I made sure to take some pictures in front of the 9 dragon wall to document the sacrilege.
I think the coffee producers could use a pay raise and would gladly pay 10-30% more to ensure they make a living wage.
I usually pay around $2 for a 16-20 oz Starbucks coffee.
When did salt and pepper become a pair? {Slashfood}
Aug 17th 2008 5:52AM This is interesting, but it would be great if you could provide some references or links.
Also, you mention "fine herbs" and "vulgar spices" without describing their differences. Herbs tend to be leafy and spices tend to be seedy. Herbs were probably easier to grow and find than spices, which tended to be imported from exotic locales. Why were spices vulgar?

I'd have to disagree. I think she sounds like she a thesaurus and a dime-store romance novel got together and had drunken Christman-party sex.
Sometimes I like her food, sometimes not.

Dec 2nd 2007 2:24AM SA may start because MoMo got beat up in last week's game and SA wants to prove himself after getting reasonably healthy.
I say give SA a shot until he decides he's too old or too injured to start taking hits. MoMo may not be a future hall-of-famer, but he fights for every yard.
Also, what's up with SA being in a cast for entire regular season? What kind of break takes 12 weeks to heal?

Dec 2nd 2007 2:07AM @Miss Gossip: I can't believe you did that to Steve!
@Anny: Actually, Steve had a string of something like 74 free throws going back to last year (before Miss Gossip jinxed him).

Jul 19th 2006 4:50PM Why does everyone like Balan and why is she thought to be such a strong contender? Her jokes are stale and her delivery is weak. The only time she could be considered to be funny or edgy would be if she were on the Ed Sullivan show.
It seemed like Roz was a little nervous last night and that seemed to put her timing off a little bit. I think that plays into a lot of the performances (some people have a hard time performing in front of a whole theatre).
Toshiba announces U205 ultra-portable and R25 convertible notebooks {Engadget}
Jun 28th 2006 2:14AM "You, the computer maker, get me a small and powerful laptop/tablet, and you got yourself a happy costumer."
Without melting your notebook, the best you can expect in a 12"/13.3" is an ati x1400/nvidia 7400 and the best you can get in a 14" is an ati x1600/nvidia 7600. You could try stuffing a 7900 gtx in there but your notebook would get hot enough fry your lap parts.

Jun 28th 2006 2:07AM "WOW - a 12" 4lb 1.x GHz laptop! That is incredible.
I feel stupid having bout a 13.3" 4lb 2.x GHz duo core laptop several months ago.
Toshiba, WAKE UP!!!!"
Wake up, jim. No one cares if you have a slightly faster core duo processor (1.66 or 1.83 vs. 2.?)? You paid too much for it and your performance gains will be minimal. I don't know if you realize it, but toshiba can't conjure up a core duo out of thin air and they have to use processors that, you know, exist.

Jun 27th 2006 6:00PM How is 2.4 lbs not an ultraportable? If you consider the 12", 4.6lb, 1.2"-thick powerbook g4 an ultraportable than this definitely is.

Jun 22nd 2006 2:34PM One (or both?) of the guys did a movie called "Cannibal the Musical" set in the old west that was pretty mormon-full, if I remember correctly.
