iPhone firmware 2.0.2 is out... and angry {Engadget}

Aug 18th 2008 5:47PM I'm pretty sure this is by design, because of complaints that it was too touchy before. I could be wrong of course.

iPhone 3G review supplemental: battery life and MobileMe tests {Engadget}

Jul 16th 2008 11:06PM I really hope you see this message. My company enforces this as well, but it is easy to get around.

Under Settings->General->Passcode Lock, there is a setting called "Require Passcode". You can set this to up to 4 hours. That way, you comply with the Exchange enforced restriction, but rarely bump up against it.

I seem to be getting a fair bit more than that. Turn off "Wifi stumbling". Also, with 3G turned off, battery life is much better on this edition.

Jul 16th 2008 1:15PM Turn off Wifi Stumbling (only connect to known networks). It seems to make a big difference, but most people don't know it.

iSpeak: Voice dialing for iPhone 3G {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jul 9th 2008 10:18AM This is just silly. Since apps can't run in the background, you'll have to launch this with your finger. Might as well just tap a couple more times and avoid the frustration of voice recognition.

To me, the whole point of voice dialing is so you can dial while the phone stays in your pocket, via headphones, or BT headset. This really needs to be undertaken by Apple, if at all. My suspicion is that they've avoided it because voice dialing always feels "chintzy"--with it forcing you to repeat things and get them exactly the same--especially when you've got a lot of "voice dialable" contacts.

Finally, why would this be limited to iPhone 3G?

Apple losing engineers due to low salaries? Not so fast {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Jun 18th 2008 1:34PM What really irks us Economists is that you somehow define this behavior as "not rational". People get utility from different sources and economists understand this perfectly well. These individuals are still acting in their own rational self interest.
