Naw. The numbers are far to long to be just month/date/year. Besides the fact there isn't any questionable or M-rated content on the site anyway.
The SWF file on the site has three parameters associated with it. I punched in random numbers and it wouldn't play past the KONAMI logo which means the file is gonna change what it plays based on some sort of data. Someone should decompile the swf to see if there are hints or not-yet-seen content or see how they can play with those parameters.
Gotta say I'm very happy to hear him say this. The only valid complaint I've ever heard someone make about Steam is what if the activation servers go down forever? Steam is turned off and no one can play their games.

But hearing Gabe say this means he knows the obvious follies of treating purchased products like that. As it is, there is already a -nosteam command line argument that allows you to play some games not only in offline mode, but without steam at all. My guess if that were to EVER happen, Valve would release an update to permanently envoke this command on all installed games.

"But it's all downloaded! If the servers go, so do new copies and new installs!"

Well that's true too. But Steam has many backup options so you can back up copies of your games to a disc, drive folder, etc. Anywhere you like so you'll have your own hard copy.

Keep in mind these problems would come up in the magical situation that Steam were to permanently shut down. So even in a worse-case scenario, we can backup our games and if Valve didn't give us an option, apply third-party patches to play our games off of Steam. (Or perhaps an alternative Steam client could be made)
OK. So we're not being raped with a spiked metal dildo now. Just a rubbery, bumpy one.
What concerns me most is he calls it the future of DRM. This implies that EA hasn't learned anything from this experience and is going to continue doing it as long as they can apparently trick their customers into thinking there isn't a problem here. Just wait a little while longer when a number of people start calling in about how they can't play their game anymore.
For about...15 years now I've randomly had the boss theme from Sonic 2 pop in my head when I wake up in the morning. Usually a few times a month. It'd be nice to see that horror orcestralized in a stadium with Tommy Tallarico who I fucking love and is a legend in my book.
It wouldn't make sense for this to be a Wii accessory. The wiimote already does a fine job of being a pedometer. If this is real, it's for the DS.
It doesn't work because Clearwire is a horrific provider. Even worse then Comcast. Yea, I know what I said....
=P Obviously people should be weary given the game's history, but I think Forever actually IS coming out very soon. It seems they've settled their development cycle a lot recently since during earlier development there were a lot of changed in game technology graphics. It's the same reason Source Engine/Half Life 2 was so delayed as well.

Who knows...maybe this movie will coincide with Forever's release in some way...? A good sign to see Duke getting somewhere at least.
You want some art? I'll give you some art.

My grandfather is an amazing artist who instead of painting with ink or oil pants, he creates art on a canvas using nothing but colored thread and days upon days of hard work. On my wall right now is a threaded painting he made just for me of a snowy mountain top with a log cabin and a river. In the background there's a line of ever-greens and the center piece of the image; a large, detailed image of a cougar looking over it all.

So yea...=P That's REAL art.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just moved into a new apartment and have been reading about all of the new power strips out there, especially the green ones. I was wondering if you had any suggestions about which "green "power strips are out there with decent joules ratings. And when I say green, I mean power strips that have the remotes or switches to turn off all electricity flowing to certain plugs and with at least 2 plugs that are always on. I was looking specifically at sub $50 because I will need two, but if that is not possible I could be convinced otherwise. Thanks!"
