Has anyone else noticed that the iphone3G is just an iphone. I mean, its great that they have it with 3G, but didn't the original iphone have the 3g chipset when it was sent to the FCC in the beginning. I know the original had issues with the battery operation with the 3G chip (meaning: battery life was none existent.). The iPhone 3G just looks like they popped the original (and nicer) backing off, slapped a thicker battery in it (and possibly a new bluetooth A2DP chip) replaced the back with a "colorful" PLASTIC back and called it a new phone.

Perhaps I am used to Apple making real changes to their devices, but couldn't Apple send me a new battery and backing of my choice with a note on how to activate my 3G chip.

Does the iPhone have WI-FI? *Yes* Do they force you to take a data plan? *Yes* Is there a way to block the data and only use WIFI? *NO*

So what would be the difference with Blackberry and VZW leaving WIFI on this phone? Think before you speak. WiFi actually is a benefit because it doesn't use the network, but the iPhone utilizes WiFi to overcome its lack of 3G. Why do you think the iPhone always asks to switch to WiFi whenever it can?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
