No. I love Linux and really hope it takes off as a Desktop operating system, but that particular distro looks like the Geocities homepage of a 1998 Quake2 clan. Something only a basement dwelling pre-teen wannabe metal-head could ever possibly enjoy.
That's not necessarily true if gaming is a secondary purpose. My main use is software/firmware development, and I run Linux for its security, reliability, myriad of tools and applications, and for the exact control over what runs on my machine. There's also merit to the ideological point that your software platform must be open for it to really be yours (I'm trying Windows 7 Beta on an HTPC for its ClearQAM support, and all the layers of DRM and (anti-)privacy agreements and so on is ridiculous). But I still like the occasional game of TF2, and WINE gets me there just fine.
Wow, hope to win this one!
Question about cell phones/sim cards:

I'm on a family plan on AT&T's network. We don't have any data plan and I don't want to add one, so 3G is not a concern right now. WiFi will be fine for data. So, does that mean I can buy an unlocked N900 and use my AT&T sim and AT&T's GSM network, just for voice? The T-Mobile-specific frequency articles have mentioned only is relevant for 3G/data, right? Will (A-)GPS work?
Wowza. Nice giveaway.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"My father-in-law is heading back to school in the spring and wants a laptop for Christmas. The only catch is their budget is around $400 and he does not want a netbook. He's not very "tech savvy" at all and doesn't need a hoss of a machine (not that $400 could get you one). We would like to get it for him as soon as possible and would love some input."
