thank god the times roman got the boot
Is $500 a good enough reason for you?
oh and 2010 will also be the year of linux
hp just love ALMOST releasing decent products, only to cock the whole thing up every single time. idiots.
Every DJ equipment story on Engadget is a disastrous car crash of error-ridden 'reporting' and a cringe-inducing cascade of clueless commenters. KUTGW
Glossy must die.
will the google nav app ever be released for the iphone?
crap-pad never coming out, so forget that
already looks dated. envy changed the game
here's the real review, i tested it out in John Lewis today:

decent build but odd choice of 'pattern' - looks like a bird has been pecking the palmrest - typical hp design irritation (see also: expresso 'puddles' disaster and all that shiny silver plastic shite they have infested the market with over the last 3 years)

great cpu paired with sub-standard cooling - typical hp rush job, they just love making laptops that double as radiators/hairdryers, does anyone ever test these units or do they fear they will get axed if they tell the bosses you can fry eggs on it?

screen is a glossfest - for gods sake do hp ever read the comments here? dear hp, why do you think apple caved and brought back matte? HELLO? or if you must do glass, at least make it edge-to-edge as per the 13

all told it's pretty faithful mbp rip, which is fine - hopefully more laptops will have a sober industrial look as opposed to the tacky, wacky shiny kiddies toys i am continually confronted with (sony cw? ye gods. those new 'tartan' toshibas? my eyes!!!!! oh and thinkpads don't count - they are their own unique breed of fugly) but of course hp managed to forget to copy the backlit kb - good lord why isn't this standard on ALL laptops?

for a machine that has a 'limited' version aimed at budding music producers, the sound system is surprisingly lame. now before someone says REAL STUDIOS USE RME FIREFACE etc blah blah - yes i'm well aware of all that, what i'm saying is that a £1200 15" laptop in 2009 SHOULD be able to sound as good as an x-mini speaker at least, yet none of them manage it, why is that?

lets hope hp pull their finger out for the 14, or sony refresh the z with some serious style (x-series stylings, ditch the optical drive, backlit kb, 8hr batt with zero drain)

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"All of these new nettops have me intrigued. I'm looking for a small, quiet and cheap PC to replace my aging tower in my home office, and all it really needs to do is load Microsoft Office, check email and surf the web. Is there a particular nettop that's better (or a better value) than another? I know it's a rather new segment, but hopefully someone has taken a chance on one already. Thanks!"
