No HDMI/Displayport, no better resolution.... NO GO!

and IMHO, Win 7 Starter is a bit pointless. I am expecting either Win XP or at least 7 Home...
At first glance this laptop seems wonderful... but then comes the deal breaker! No HDMI??????? COME ON.... how do u expect as to connect to display devices? Most of the pc monitors do not support anymore VGA.... not to mention HDTVs... it is a dying port... let it rest in peace!

Damn...
My experience so far with the netbooks says that:

1) We need a faster Atom, something like 2.1-2.2GHz, preferably an Atom that supports x64
2) 2GB RAM
3) 720p Panel - 10 inch, not more
4) HDMI out (for gods shake, what display device uses anymore VGA...)
5) 6-cell batteries as standard
6) keep the size and weight to current levels or better

(there are some netbooks that supports the above specs more or less)

and I would like to see as options:
1) integrated GPS
2) DVB Mpeg4 tuner

Bad deal @ 800$

In my local stores I can find the HP 2710p (this magnificent tablet) with a C2D U7700, 2GB RAM, 120GB, X3100 for less than 800$ and we are talking for new devices (not refurbished or something)!

I think, a much better deal overall...
Nice... but this isn't a netbook.... but a pricey gadget!
At least in a netbook you could do some work. Not with this thing though! The aspect ratio sucks big time. I still cannot see why someone would tottaly kill vertical size! Vista is a deal breaker also...

If I want a premium, an exclusive netbook... I would definatelly go for Mininote. It's alu, it's nicely speced, it's reasonably priced... u can't go wrong.
Naaahhh... I 'd better wait for the 2133 refresh. The 1000 is pretty nice, but I would like to see a higher resolution for a 10incher...
1) Same bezel, but 10 inch screen
2) Bluetooth is a MUST, I still wonder how did they missed that....
3) 6 cell battery
4) Throw in an HDMI port istead of a VGA... come on... this is 2008...
looks ugly I think, and the bezel is huge...
You are ignoring what I have mentioned a few posts above! Atom Platform does not consume only 3watts but A LOT MORE because you will have to take into account the Southbridge chipset which consumes around 8-10watt.

Nano is integrating Southbridge functions, hence it does not need one. The Nano L2100 (1.8GHz) peaks at 25watt and the 1.6GHz model peaks at 17watt.

So, if we compare the two platforms (not processors alone, because it doesn't make any sense) at the same clock speed, the wattage difference is too small to worth mentioning and the rest of the benchmark should be identical.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new laptop, and I want a 13-incher. I need something with a great keyboard for typing, as this will mostly be used for note taking in class. I am absolutely smitten with the XPS 13, but I'm afraid that with its age Dell is going to give it an update soon. Any advice for someone in my shoes?"
