Keep up the great work!
"There are few professions where all possible candidates are asked to do the work first, allowing the buyer to choose which one to pay."

Ha! Thats about the funniest thing I've ever read! Do your "professional design studios" hire people randomly off the street? Or do your employee candidates require some level of "work" history (ie, portfolio) before you hire and "pay" them? Do you have job requirements that must be met before someone is considered for employment?

I can think of a handful of professions where possible candidates are not required to have some work history or level of competence (requiring work) before they are paid and they all suck.
Maybe they can't by nature of licensing agreements or 3rd party contract to bundle licensed IP with a free product.
Does anyone know of any Apple-sponsored initiatives to test this on a smaller scale? It seems that video iPods would be a great idea for revisiting lectures and making available "additional information" and getting kids excited about learning. I know they are used in some college classes effectively.

Why isn't Apple leading this charge? Why aren't they offering to outfit a district and see how things go?
Seriously, everyone one of you who thinks Bill Gates (or anyone for that matter) deserves ridicule or to be baited:

1. Put down the mouse
2. Step away from your Mac (or Linux box)
3. Go outside
4. Breathe deeply

Yes, Bill Gates is rich - very rich. Does that make him less of a person? Does that make it okay to poke fun at him, waste his time or otherwise antagonize him?

This interviewer with the Napolean complex needs to go away. I, personally, think Bill should use some of his money to unearth a bunch of nasty crap about the guy doing the interview and completely destroy his life. I mean, fair is fair afterall. But, of course, he won't. Why? Because, though he very well could - he understands its petty and cheap and he doesn't have anything to prove.

Why on Earth would he respond to the Mac commercials? Take yourself outside of the "yeah, well, he talked shit about me so I need to respond" fifth-grade mentality here and realize that there is much more at stake in every single word he utters, so he'd be best to choose them carefully.

Regarding The Daily Show: so he walked off abruptly. Could be he's a busy guy...could be he's used to the format "interviews over it's time to go" or it could be that he felt snubbed in some way. I certainly can't get inside the man's head, but since you obviously can The Amazing Randi has a $1 million dollar prize for you at www.randi.org to buy up all the Mac gear you could ever want.

We all concede that it's cool to be a Mac fan right now and we're gonna let you off the hook since you've got all this pent up frustration of years of getting your lunch handed to you by the rest of the PC world. But, don't think for one minute that you're passion translates into superiority. Your perfect Apple can only ride the iPod fueled windfall for so long and you can only brush corporate governance issues under the rug for so long until the bills come due.

In the meantime, enjoy the ride - you and Apple have paid your dues and deserve a few moments in the sun. But, leave the cheap shots at the door. It makes you look smug and childish.

Bill, if you're reading this...keep fighting the fight. Your products aren't perfect and neither are you, but I'm encouraged by your ability to stay on top for so long, your generosity and the new approach you're taking to some very old world problems. You've no doubt learned by now there are dicks in the world trying to make a name for themselves off of your "celebrity" and seem to handle yourself with a level of poise when confronted by children.
If only there were a way to tie this bill into "protecting the children" it would SAIL through! So, I say rename it "SAVE THE KIDS" or

Stop Audio Video Encryption That Hurt Everyone, Kill Innovation and Destroy Something

Couldn't think of a better word for "Something" in the 30 seconds I had to put that together. Please feel free to re-work.
Can we please stop the "Yeah, well my billionaire can beat up your billionaire" crap - it's getting a little old.
"It's too bad that MS can't have the same balls (ie, Universal, Cable Industry) that Apple did when it negotiated prices for iTMS. Shame. Shame. Shame. Forget Ubuntu...try OSX and wait for iTV. I'll bet Jobs won't get jobbed like Gates is."

You mean content with restrictive DRM that costs as much as (or more than) purchasing the same content on less-restrictive physical media? Yeah, some balls. Golly, gee, Mr. Jobs I stand in awe of your amazing power - how ever did you manage to swing that deal that had everything the major music labels wanted. Oh, but you didn't back down when they wanted you to do tiered pricing - you are a freaking god!

Seriously, I'm considering starting a religion for people who thing Steve Jobs is the messiah and Bill Gates is the devil.

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"For a long time I have been searching for a portable device where I can store all of my CDs in MP3 format and stream the songs wirelessly to my HiFi system. The portable device must I've tried FM transmitters, they all suck. I don't want a docking station. Any help? Thanks!" have a display so that I easily can scroll through the playlists (I don't want to use a TV or monitor). I suppose that there must also be a second device that is connected to the HiFi system that would receive the wireless streams from the portable device.
