I don't see why this is such a big deal.

No matter how your chicken was treated prior to getting into your hands, you should always take the same measures to prevent foodborne illness. Even if my chicken came from a source that was 100% free of salmonella and campylobacter, I'd still take the necessary storage, preparation, and cooking steps.

It's not like buying an air-chilled organic broiler gives you a free pass to do something stupid like storing it in a warm place, undercooking it, or neglecting to clean up after preparing.
Hey, I get that you need headlines to get people to read posts, but why come up with something completely asinine when the article you linked to specifically mentions how Phelps chose not to swim in the high-tech swimsuit that most of the other swimmers wore? You know, the one that is supposed to give a 3% boost in performance? The one that many people credit for the surge in new world records recently?
I think the problem most people have with many locavores is the fact that eating local doesn't necessarily mean you're getting high-quality foods, nor does it necessarily mean that you're reducing the impact on the environment. I think too many locavores assume that it's a clear-cut issue when it's not.

NYT had a great (if brief) article on this very idea recently.

And Tracy, eating local does not necessarily mean that you're eating meat that has been well-treated.

Case in point, dairy cows and sheep raised in Europe are usually fed concentrated, processed feeds during the winter months when grazing is impossible. Yet dairy products and sheep from New Zealand come from animals that are generally able to graze outdoors year-round. Is it better for the animal to graze naturally or for it to be fed processed feedstock?

Not only that, but a study from the University of Christchurch (It may have been a different university) found that because New Zealand's agriculture is much less dependent on energy-intensive fertilizers than Europe, the total energy footprint for foodstuffs produced in NZ and shipped to Europe is actually less than foodstuffs produced in Europe, even when taking transport costs into account.
NPR had a report on this very announcement.

The same group (Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies) that released this recommendation also took $60k in funds from the National Fisheries Institute.

Also, from the NPR story,
"The American Academy of Pediatrics told her that the group had no idea it was being associated with the guidelines, with which it disagrees. Strongly. Ditto the March of Dimes, CDC and at least one agency at the NIH. By 2 p.m., we noticed that the list of members on HMHB's Web site was shrinking — the pediatricians were no longer there."
Add an option for WXGA+ and this would be a perfect little notebook.
As someone who has suffered through depression, I feel I am qualified to call you an idiot.

Yes, there was something wrong this man. No, he likely wasn't in a correct state of mind when he did this. Does this mean that the police should've stood back and waited for a therapist to chat with him? Maybe they should've pulled out their pill guns and fired Lexapro tablets into his mouth?

Bottom line was that this guy was disobeying police orders and the officers had no way of knowing if he posed a threat to others. Under those circumstances, I would rather that the police do whatever they can do subdue him instead of sitting back and taking the chance that he would do something to harm someone else. It's unfortunate that the circumstances resulted in his death, but it would've been even more unfortunate if his actions resulted in someone else's death.
Ugh, this should be a federal crime.
Hmm, MXM graphics? Does it come standard with an MXM module, or will users have to buy one themselves? Honestly, I don't recall ever coming across an MXM module in any retail setting, B&M or online.

It makes me sad that someone went to the trouble of documenting this. Plus, did anyone bother to read the heading of the page?

"Each item was purchased, taken home, and photographed immediately."

So basically, someone let these food items steam in their wrappers for a few minutes before expecting them to look pristine?
Dang, I remember reading about some guy doing this back in the Celeron 300A days. I seem to remember that he had a problem with water contamination, where the water droplets would sink to the bottom of the tank and rest right on his motherboard.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I need help! I want a small pocket camcorder but I'm not sure which one to get. I don't want to fall into the hype of the Flip because I worry two hours won't be enough. What should I be looking for when considering a small camcorder and where can I get a good quality one with expandable memory? Thanks!"
