Debunk: sleep easy, the iPhone's still a quad-band worldphone {Engadget}

May 19th 2007 2:55PM Why is it "of course" quad-band? As far as anyone knows, the core of the iPhone will be an Infineon chip set. The latest GSM/EDGE phone released with an Infineon chipset was the LG Shine, which is a tri-band phone. So really, it wasn't a safe bet at all. Still, it's an important part of the feature set.

Apple's touch sensitive mouse design axes scroll ball {Engadget}

Apr 13th 2007 5:44AM So where is the "haptic approach" on this mouse?

I learn something new about Engadget editors every day: One day it's "Engadget editors are clueless about Star Wars (=aren't really geeks)", then it's "Engadget editors think that a patent means that there are actual product plans", then it's "Engadget editors don't know what 'haptic' means".

Or was the idea just to put some interesting buzzword into the article?

Final Wii Internet Channel ready for update {Engadget}

Apr 12th 2007 4:52AM "The update brings parental controls to your Wii"

No, it doesn't. There's a bug in the Wii update system so that it keeps claiming for every update that parental controls are now enabled. However, they were already enabled after the very first update.

Mobile speed cameras to suprise chatty motorists with penalties {Engadget}

Feb 28th 2007 6:02AM "I just saw the headline of this article at the bottom of my window and I made a bet with myself that this would have to be here in the UK...
You can bet your bottom pound on the government being on top to extract every last penny you have from you at every opportunity...
Moneygrabbing b***tards..., always the same..."

So you'd prefer for them to just throw people into jail who talk on their mobile phone while driving? You realize that'd cost you, the tax payer, money? Or what other punishment would you suggest for those idiots who knowingly endanger other people's lives?

Dell not so hot for gaming handheld rumors {Engadget}

Feb 8th 2007 5:27AM Funny, I would have thought that "no plans to launch" means that they have no plans to launch such a product. Weird, how an Engadget writer can twist that into meaning that it's quite possible that they're working on it already but just haven't set a release date.

If I state that I have no plans to go to Hawaii, I guess Engadget is going to speculate that I just haven't bought the tickets yet, but that I'm actively researching travel pages and that it's quite possible that I'll end up in Hawaii in the next six months?

Sony Ericsson's W880 (Ai) Walkman musicphone unleashed {Engadget}

Feb 6th 2007 7:20AM What's with the "this is better than the iPhone"/"this is worse than the iPhone" nonsense? Does it have to be compared with the iPhone just because it has music playback capability (like a large number of phone that are released nowadays)? That's really the only similarity with the iPhone that I could find.

Engadget has a report about an automatic trouser press just above this one. Perhaps people can also post "I LOVE THIS MORE THAN THE IPHONE!" there?

The widescreen iPhone -- not so widescreen {Engadget}

Jan 17th 2007 9:11AM "1. All signs point to cingular charging through the nose monthly to use all the phones features"

Which signs? Which features? During the whole presentation, I didn't see a single feature that Cingular could charge for specifically.

"2. Phone only available with a 2 year agreement"

I am not going to complain about this before I see the contract conditions.

"3. Not unlockable"

I'm really curious as to who started that rumor.

"4. No 3G"

But WLAN. I still consider WLAN the better choice at this point. I can surf the web for free over WLAN when I'm at home. If I have a 3G-phone without WLAN (like the Treo), I _always_ have to pay for surfing the web.

There's WLAN service on many flights nowadays. Show me a flight where you are allowed to use your 3G phone to surf the web.

Big Brother could slow British motorcycles down, track routes {Engadget}

Jan 15th 2007 7:35AM "You are obviously members of that group that believes the BS the government pushes about "speed kills". When will you realise that it's not speed, but inappropriate speed (there is a difference) that kills."

Yea, that's why there are speed limits. They determine which speed is appropriate. People who don't want to accept that shouldn't be participating in traffic in the first place.

"Most people break the law in some way, but only speeding gets the attention (not to say breaking the law is ok in any way)."

Huh? I'd say pretty much every attempt to break the law gets attention. Or are prisons filled with speeders while thiefs, rapists and murderers are going free? Or is this just a case of irrational paranoia?

"Don't be fooled into letting the government control how you drive. People should take more responsibility for their actions and this is just one more way that the nanny state is eroding your rights."

But if you have an accident, you go crying to the "nanny state" to pay for your wheelchair, right? People who have an accident while disobeying traffic rules should automatically be exempt from receiving any health benefits from the state, but sadly, the "nanny state" still pays for idiots who broke the law. That is the REAL problem.

The state doesn't control traffic because there's some control freak making the traffic laws, but because idiots who think they are smart enough to know how fast is too fast cost the society money and often enough injure or kill other people who weren't breaking the law.

Big Brother could slow British motorcycles down, track routes {Engadget}

Jan 15th 2007 5:41AM "Who said anyhing about speeding"

The mechanism only kicks in when someone exceeds the speed limit. That's the whole point.

Big Brother could slow British motorcycles down, track routes {Engadget}

Jan 15th 2007 4:56AM "This has been proposed before and ruled too dangerous for bikers - unlike driving a car when cornering a bike you need to have selected the correct gear for the conditions of the corner"

So what you're saying is essentially that such a system would endager people who are going faster than the speed limit while turning a corner? Do you see the irony in that?
