They're *not* required to have the software installed, it just has to ship with the computer. Thus to get it on your computer you would have to go and install it yourself. Of course presumably many people would install it because they have kids, etc. and it's basically a free copy of cyber-sitter lol.
How much did your dealer want for them? In a place like LA that particular dealer might just be trying to scalp the Priuses for way above MSRP so they have it available.
I remember a bunch of dealers doing this kind of stuff with the Prius last summer.
BTW I don't know about you but I live in a city where a lot of people qualify for GM discounts of some sort or another and I never see any Lucernes being driven around...I think I've seen one Enclave before. Kind of a problem for word of mouth if nobody drives one or if the only people who drive them are 80 years old and keep it in the garage 360 days of the year.
Maybe a Fiesta movement style thing wouldn't be such a bad idea if only to get these out there.
I just think it's a waste of ad money...some of the best selling cars out there have mediocre ad campaigns at best. Most car sales are just word of mouth, or simply when people see someone driving a car on the street that's new and they're curious about it. And when they do they ask the owner what kinda car it is, and how it is, etc.

People tend to take that kind of stuff a lot more seriously than the random ad flavor of the week. I mean how many people bought a Toyota BECAUSE of their Moving You Forward slogan? Toyota probably would have sold just as many cars with or without the stupid slogan.

Make the cars good enough and interesting enough and the first buyers will be getting bombarded with questions in no time by other people considering car purchases. Ford seems to be trying to mimic this kind of thing with the Fiesta movements-give people interesting new cars to drive around and hope people ask them about the cars. Of course the fact that it's part of an ad campaign makes the statements less objective but at least they're trying to tap into that kinda thing.

I remember when I first bought my Camry I got bombarded with questions even though I didn't even buy it in a redesign year-even the guy working the drive-through window asked me about it, a lady in the parking spot next to mine (I think she drove a Buick actually) who actually said she was in the market for a new car asked me about it, etc. People who are looking to buy new cars ask their friends for advice, and if they see a car they like on the street they ask the owners about it-that's the kind of stuff that has a lot more influence than some TV ad.

Obviously if GM went the Fiesta movement route it'd seem like they were just being copycats but honestly if they can just get people who genuinely like the cars to drive them around and talk about them to people who ask it'd do a lot more good than yet another random slogan.
lol might want to upgrade that horn just so drivers will hear you over their stereo.
Including yourself apparently, because ALL cars cost more money in the UK. Even a Focus costs 25K there.
A corvette costs similarly more there genius.
I like the barrel monster but if you go and read his blog the guy does a lot of other douchey crap like throwing snowballs at EMTs and pedestrians from rooftops that he breaks into. Retarded.
So while the barrel monster is hilarious this kid has to grow up and realize that crap has consequences.
@Jared
I think I'm more worried those municipalities will decide to write more speeding tickets for 5 over to buy these shiny new cars.
lol Saxxon, they just bought plenty of cars at full price from Ford...more than from GM or Chrysler.
lol...in rush hour traffic? Seriously was this guy too lazy to just pull his son by running like a normal person?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
