another legal issue that may have caused apple pause is the nasty lawsuit between netapp & sun over zfs features.
i trashed the oed2 software for windows years ago in an amazon review (http://www.amazon.com/review/R2OW3EN6S5ECRD/). it was unmitigated crap on that platform. unsurprising that the same inept crew were responsible for unmitigated crap on osx. it's really too bad, though. the oed is a brilliant dictionary. so why is it marred with the worst interface ever devised?
secure delete takes forever & sometimes hangs; its helper app, locum, sucks up 120% cpu whilst flailing about.

the spinning beachball still appears when trying to type in textboxes w/firefox.

istumbler entirely fails to talk to the wireless system. kismac refuses to see more than channel 1 devices.

context switching (changing apps) is much slower than leopard.

because its a first generation 24" imac, there is no 64bit kernel - somehow doubt that improve anything anyway.

overall impression: underwhelmed.
i bought the oup dictionary for a long ago disposed windows machine. i even stupidly bought the upgrade. the ui was so appalling i returned it, swearing never to buy another inept computer product from oup. i'd recommend avoiding this. get the paper dictionary. at least it hasn't a workable drm ...
i wonder if hodgeman write some of the adverts: they're very much his style.
you don't become a musky billionaire without being a tad scummy ...
the worst thing about running windows on a mac is nobody has a device driver for the mighty mouse so its best feature is unavailable to the guest o/s - horizontal (actually 360°) scrolling.
how does d-link stay in business? i made the mistake of buying a d-link wireless ap & a supposed gigabit switch only to have to return them when they immediately failed or failed to live up to spec. they are guaranteed to never gain my trade again. their products are garbage.
i've always wanted to meet a punter rich & stupid enough to buy a goldmund product. their ridiculous cdplayer - transport only - of a decade ago was worth giggles just imagining the prat who could hear the difference between it & a discman ...
funny, i was looking for the plural this morning after observing what a bunch of prats prius drivers are, especially those smug dorks with a california commuter lane access sticker on their bumper. only it wasn't busy on us101 this morning, but that didn't stop some bearded retard in a white prius from hogging the commute lane at a tad under 65mph. now granted those machines get better mileage at slower rates but if he wanted to drive slowly, mr prius turd could have selected another lane. traffic was moving along a brisk pace. as it was, i quickly left that particular idiot far behind - i wasn't speeding ...
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
