Sony streaming Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs free to new customers, expensively to existing ones {Engadget HD}
Nov 9th 2009 5:07PM First off, you could not see this in the theater for less than $24.95 unless you went by yourself. Anyone with a family, and it was a lot more than that.
However, that doesn't justify this price. You'd really have to be impatient to not wait the month for the 1080p high bitrate, lossless audio Blu-ray... at probably $20 to $22 from Amazon.
I'm glad to see the article recognizing that 720p is sub-par compared to 1080p. Keep fightin' the good fight! :-)

Robert Pattinson Talks 'Breaking Dawn' & 'Unbound Captives' {Cinematical}
Nov 8th 2009 1:18PM Controversial? Seriously?
I am a stubborn reader, and actually read the whole series. Hated the first three, except for bits and pieces.
However, the last book was absolutely, shockingly -- and to my absolute horror -- GREAT! It made reading the series totally worthwhile. Not often you get payoff after so much work. :)
If they water this down, or fear "controversy" (still... huh?), that's a disaster. But given the amount of money to be made, I'm not really afraid of this... more afraid of wild and stupid changes to the story, which is far more likely than not making the last movie.

Discuss: Which Trailers Are You Sick Of? {Cinematical}
Nov 3rd 2009 11:07PM Christmas Carol, I second that.
I *hate* Zemekis' animation company's style. And then Jim Carrey as scrooge? Having seen Patrick Stewart do the live reading/performance, it's just torture watching Jim Carrey over-the-top with horrible animation.
Good news is it's out soon, and will go away.

Poll: What's the biggest Blu-ray disc still due to arrive in 2009? {Engadget HD}
Nov 2nd 2009 2:51PM Your "reasonable solution" has one failing. It's not FREE. That's one the biggest reasons for piracy, and no matter how much (how little) you charge for BDs, piracy's still going to occur. Also, the Star Trek rip beating the Blu-ray release out the gate by quite a large margin helps the piracy too.

XBMC ARM port teased, will manage HD playback from pocket-sized Beagleboard (video) {Engadget HD}
Nov 2nd 2009 2:46PM What does "full HD" mean? Most likely just 720p. It's certainly a commendable step, but 1080p is where the world is headed (if not already reached), so 720p doesn't make nearly as much sense as targeting 1080p.

Paradigm ships its Special Edition speakers {Engadget HD}
Nov 1st 2009 6:03PM Michael, I doubt you'll *ever* be paying attention -- except to rag on Paradigm more.
B&H Photo sells them online. There's another site that sells previous models -- still brand new in box -- online. But you aren't paying attention!
I have never bought speakers online. The shipping is absolutely astronomical, especially given the weight and size. Same goes with TVs. There are truly some things better bought in-store. And if you care about sound, you definitely want to hear the speakers prior to making a purchase.
Sure, Best Buy doesn't carry the high end of Paradigm... but ANY SPEAKER that matches Parardigm in quality can't be found at Best Buy either.

Poll: What's the biggest Blu-ray disc still due to arrive in 2009? {Engadget HD}
Nov 1st 2009 5:54PM Harry Potter and Star Trek are the real big movies coming. However, Transformers made more than both of them combined theatrically. I liked it in the theater (with negative-infinity expectations being surpassed!), second watching is... disturbing. But the *quality* of the Blu-ray is incredible. Audio and video are absolutely top notch! Movie... back not negative infinity.
Harry Potter is Harry Potter, huge fanbase and all that. But the younger *overall* audience costs Blu-ray sales (I'd say same with Up, but moreso).
Star Trek, however, had the mix of Lost audience and Star Trek fans. So I see it doing well on these merits.
Again, I doubt either will beat Transformers, but as long as they do well... and hopefully holiday Blu-ray player sales will also add a boost... that's great for the format.

Transformers 2 tops chart, best selling Blu-ray of all time? {Engadget HD}
Oct 29th 2009 6:09PM Agreed on picture and sound. But in terms of Star Wars. Maybe you should watch *Empire Strikes Back* and *Revenge of the Sith* again.

Transformers 2 tops chart, best selling Blu-ray of all time? {Engadget HD}
Oct 29th 2009 6:06PM Yeah, showing kids that women are purely sex objects is GREAT! AWESOME! So mellow out you bozos!
And all you adults who grew up with Transformers, just shut up! You don't count even though you are the target audience!!
In terms of kids & storylines, ref. "Pixar."

Transformers 2 tops chart, best selling Blu-ray of all time? {Engadget HD}
Oct 29th 2009 5:59PM I had super low expectations and actually kind of liked the movie in the theater (uh, except all the dog humping, leg humping, big balls, women-as-objects, jar jar x 2 robots... didn't realize Michael Bay was only 14).
But watching the Blu-ray the second time around, MAN! The awful really stands out!
I thought it had a good story, but it was buried beneath the poor execution.
OTOH, the Blu-ray has great audio and video quality. The Lossless audio really rocks.
