what about two girls and a cup?
That's funny. Seems to be doing just fine in the other 99% of the world.

And compared to "at release" and "unsubsidized pricing" it is competitive to most high end phones. People are comparing this to phones that have been out for years. Wait two years and I'm sure the price for this will drop as well. Wait for a US carrier to pick it up (if they ever do, since US carrier selection is a joke compared to what's available to the rest of the world) and I'm sure the price will be competitive as well. Did everyone already forget what the unlocked iPhone was selling at during it's release?

The US market simply isn't worth the effort for a lot of manufacturers largely due to people like the jobless fanboys crying on this site, who are only willing to buy carrier locked subsidized phones. Be happy they're even bothering to release a US version of this phone. Many of the other top manufacturers like Samsung aren't releasing US versions of their high end phones for this very reason. People who complain are just shooting themselves in the foot. Take a look at gsmarena.com and filter by US 3g bands. The selection drops to almost nothing. Sad.
Seriously, does nobody know what UNSUBSIDIZED UNLOCKED means? You can't compare the two. Why don't you try googling around for an unlocked retail HTC touch pro and you'll see its a $50 price difference, not a $550 difference. Yes, it sucks that no carrier has been announced. Maybe one will, maybe one won't. But I do recall being able to buy an UNSUBSIDIZED UNLOCKED touch pro before it was ever released on any carrier, and it was listed at $750 the last time I checked.

Carrier locks are the reason why the US doesn't get any decent phones. Spend some time on international sites and you'll realize that the phones available to the US are "mostly" garbage compared to the rest of the world. It's the mentality of the people whining in these posts that's basically setting us back to 3rd world standards. Oh wait... even third world countries are getting a lot of the phones that manufacturers aren't willing to sell to us.
That's a great example Sam Zebian. But.. I spent $35,000 on my car so I guess $800 is a bargain! For those of you comparing it to the AT&T Fuze why don't you try comparing both unlocked prices? First hit on google $50 price difference. https://www.onthegosolutions.com/product.asp?itemMDL=ATT_FUZE No official announcement has been made yet. Even the touch pro (fuze) was available before the carrier subsidized models were released.
Double the HD space and I'll buy one today.
Sad, but true. Here's hoping that this increase in sales might finally get us some of Samsung's high end phones though...
That "proprietary" OS runs on more phones than Apple's OS or Android. And that's a fact that's unlikely to change for the life of this phone. In a couple years, I'm sure it will change, but hopefully so will Sony's OS.
I've seen you on every Sony post. Do you do anything besides troll Sony posts to flame? Did Sony beat your mother when you were a child? You must have a lot of friends. And they're all probably named Steve Jobs and sit as your desktop wallpaper.
Wow, you know their profit margins?!? I guess you work for the company's accounting dept?
Still amazes me that engadget and giz were bashing android/g1 so badly just a week or two ago, calling it a failure before it was even launched while riding the iloveappleandeverythingelsesucks bandwagon. Now that sales have shot through the roof, they've suddenly become "genuinely stoked about the possibilities of Android". Do you writers have your own opinions on anything apart from what's the current hot trend?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
