Iron Man Blu-ray review roundup {Engadget HD}
Oct 9th 2008 1:23PM I just picked up the SD version (2 discs) for under $19 at my local grocery store. Seems like a great price for 2 discs. They had the BD version for $24.
James Harrison Criticizes Official, NFL Promptly Fines Him $20K {Fanhouse NFL Blog}
Oct 9th 2008 12:08PM That game was FULL of bad calls. How many taunting calls were there? The one on the Pittsburgh receiver seemed completely unfounded, as the player clearly didn't even open his mouth. He smiled, pointed the ball at the sideline for a second, an walked away. 15 yards for that? Total BS.
I think we need a booth ref that can overturn flags. They can see these things better than the field refs at times.

Great interview.

Oct 1st 2008 11:33AM Computer controlled 'scopes are nothing new - they've been around for a long time. They are also not that expensive - around $1000 for a scope with a decent mount and aperture size. And in all of these cases, the computer is built into the control handset, though PC/Mac control is an easy add-on with a cable and software (some is even free).
Not saying that his work isn't cool, as it absolutely is, but it also isn't a great leap. It just uses existing software and equipment in a new way.
And you should visit a local astronomy club "star party" some day. You will see more gear than you ever knew existed :)

Chevy Volt's powertrain and recharging clarified {Engadget}
Sep 26th 2008 12:35PM This isn't the perfect solution for everyone - nothing is. But this is a HUGE step in the right direction. I"d love something like this, as I have a 7 mile commute to my train station each way. If I need to make longer trips, no problem, the ICE is there. For road trips of several hundred miles, I use my other car (which would be a hybrid, right? :) )
Car companies stand to make serious money off of alternative solutions, since we're all FREAKED OUT in the US. Why wouldn't they all start offering vehicles like this?

Privileged: Pilot (series premiere) {TV Squad}
Sep 10th 2008 11:03AM The show is FULL of beautiful people, and all are reasonably talented (with Garcia the best of the bunch). I doubt it will last if it stays so formulaic, but it was only the pilot.
Props to casting the lovely Ann Archer as the grandmother - she's still got it!

Sep 2nd 2008 12:33PM What is unfortunate (in an otherwise great looking app) is that the red-tinted feature doesn't affect the rest of the phone - so if your phone goes to sleep and you turn it back on, you will be blinded by the wake screen's light. It is the main reason I don't use the iPhone during an observation session - night-adjusted vision can take over a half hour to return.
I will eventually use a piece of red film to cover the phone, but I'll wait until this is a faster app.
Wall-E Blu-ray details seep out, it's unsurprisingly getting the royal treatment {Engadget HD}
Aug 26th 2008 9:28AM I'd pay extra for the BRD/DVD 2 disc set, so I could play BD at home and DVD in the car. My kids need the DVD copy!
Integra's DTR-6.9 AV receiver carries THX Select2 Plus badge, $1k price {Engadget HD}
Aug 20th 2008 3:36PM That's a heckuva system. I love my Integra - they are built like TANKS. Wish I had the scratch to upgrade to this one!
Poll: Do you still use component? {Engadget HD}
Aug 19th 2008 4:50PM I have a very nice Integra receiver that upscales, but is component only. I also have a Wii that is component only. My HD TiVo does HDMI, but I don't use it since I switch everything via my receiver. Maybe if I get a new Harmony remote to handle all of the various inputs, I won't care as much.
Plus, since I'm not buying a Blu-Ray player until there is a good standalone option (though that may be soon, with Sony's new release), I'm fine with component.
I can't imagine replacing my receiver any time soon - it is a real workhorse.
