This was entirely too reasonable and even-handed for a Mac blog. More shrill, drooling fanboyism in the future, please.
Oh, so maybe the app disappearing from my phone was actually a TUAW problem... Great.
I bought SimCity and didn't have any problems playing it for a few hours, but after I synced my phone to the computer, the app just disappeared. Is this an iPhone problem or a SimCity problem?
So, it looks like the Remote app will only control your iTunes music library. It doesn't mention being able to browse AppleTV movies, photos, YouTube, etc. That's kind of a bummer, and I'm not sure why it's the case. Lord knows it would be much easier to type a search phrase on the iPhone than to go. one. letter. at. a. time. with the Apple Remote.
By that logic, any product delay is just "someone else's fault." Manufacturers are expected to give accurate ship dates. The fact that they didn't shore up their components before announcing ship dates speaks poorly of them.
Apple's really off the ball. I ordered a Mac Pro right after they were announced. One of the built-to-order components I got caused a 2 week delay, and I just got a notice this week that it would be delayed ANOTHER few weeks. Grrr...
Pixar movies on DVD are progressive scan, just like most DVDs. They wouldn't be "deinterlaced" on your TV unless you've got a non-progressive-scan DVD player that's somehow up-rezzed to 1080p by another piece of hardware along the way.
Still not quite right. Movies are converted to 30fps (er, 29.997fps) for TV via a 3:2 pulldown, but DVDs and digital content (as in iTunes) are delivered at the original framerate -- i.e., 24fps for movies.
They use the same h.264 codec, yes, but the bitrate can vary greatly. That's where the difference comes from.
Movies are shot 24p. "Funky" it ain't.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"All of these new nettops have me intrigued. I'm looking for a small, quiet and cheap PC to replace my aging tower in my home office, and all it really needs to do is load Microsoft Office, check email and surf the web. Is there a particular nettop that's better (or a better value) than another? I know it's a rather new segment, but hopefully someone has taken a chance on one already. Thanks!"
