AllofMP3's Denis Kvasov facing jail time {Engadget}
Jul 26th 2007 2:07AM allofmp3 isn't "really" gone......... they are set up again with a new name, new site. I found that they also kept all of your user info including your remaining balance that you may have had in the account.
Mossberg harshes on Comcast's DVR (and says something or other about TiVo Series3) {Engadget}
Dec 29th 2006 4:12PM Comcast has the Tivo software update in the works for their DVR. It has been test marketed in certain locations and I have an email from a fairly knowledgeable CSR that says it should be released in my area,Portland in Q1 2007. Lets pray...................
Google and Orange teaming up on Googlephone? {Engadget}
Dec 17th 2006 6:10PM ironic that this scoop comes AFTER Google's CEO received alot of press with his "shouldn't all cell phone service be free to the consumer?" comments in the press not too long ago, and a few weeks BEFORE the Iphone may or may not be announced.
Contract or not, if the google phone did come out and was a hit from a service and equipment point, there'd be no reason not to jump ship and cancel an existing contract. What's to lose? A penatly fee would be offset by the low g-phone cost of service.
All this said, the g-phone and ad based concept is a good alternative for some consumers. Others don't mind paying extra if it means avoiding ad based usage or ease/familiarty with service (ie Vonage vs Good ol land line/Verizon) and business sell users wont be wanting to waste time with any ad based platforms either.
Regardless, cool concept. Lets see how it pans out~!
TiVo Series 3 HD Box officially announced {Engadget}
Sep 13th 2006 12:47AM ALL: You don't have to wait to get this, I saw it in the flesh at Fry's today. don't wanna tell you which one cuz when I go back on thursday, it might be gone!!!!!
$699
Also, it wayyyyy sucks of TiVo not to make this work with satellite providers. I'm sure there's a logical reason for it but they ostracized a large amount of tech saavy people who use DN due to the large # of HD content channels.
CableLabs approves Motorola's multi-stream CableCARD {Engadget}
Jul 22nd 2006 1:43PM THIS is why the Tivo Series 3 has been delayed..... they have been waiting for this approval otherwise the system would essentially be considered not an improveMENT BY THE UNINFORMED GENERAL PUBLIC WHO THINKS A CABLE COMPANY DVR IS THE SAME AS A TIVO!!
Seriously, I think Tivo's biigest weakness is that they are such a
GREAT product, that they became a brand name assosciated with a complete product type (ala kleenex, xerox, coke, etc...) before they could become as profitable as they should be.
I still love my Tivos and miss them but since switching to Dish Net for the sake of their vast HDTV lineup. I cant justify ever returnign to Tivo. :-(
TiVo tells FCC, cable operators to expect Series 3 boxes "soon" {Engadget}
Jul 19th 2006 4:45PM Also..... no one has mentioned Satellite. I assume that this will/should work with Dish Network as well? Just wondering if it accepts a HDMI input to pass digital signal from STB.
I really dig my Dish VIP622 box but have a soft spot and miss my good ol Tivo interface.

Jul 19th 2006 4:43PM WINTERMUTE: look for a PCI TV card supporting HD digital cable. Haupage makes one. If you take your "basic" analog cable and plug it into the card (or even straight into your TV if it has a built in HD tuner) then you can get your HD channels as well as some other interesting stuff off the unencrypted line without need for a cable card or specific HD subscription. Try it on a TV if you have one. Built In-Digital HD Tuner required.
