"Can someone confirm for me where the TV broadcasters source their HD content? I imagine now it would be possible for them to use HD-DVD or Blu-Ray sources, but given that they often play films in HD that aren't available on Blu-Ray there must be another source?"

From the studios. It is then usually delivered on HDCAM SR tape.

Some channels probably are using standard-def upconverts when they can't find a better version. Even then, the upconvert will look better than an SD broadcast would, because it's not subjected to standard def pre-compression "optimization".
Well, it makes a change from the "Not in your region" message I get. If that's the best Hulu can offer, then I'll have to go to Bittorrent.
I know this is an Apple blog, but the spin is truly hilarious. If it's true that there are only around 6 PC makers in the UK (I haven't counted), then what it actually means is that "Apple finally becomes something other than LAST". Woo, get out the champagne.

PS: I own one of Apple's poncy computers because I need one for a Mac-only program. The hardware is overpriced but great (usable trackpad on a laptop - yes please), but the niche nature of the OS means that it is a pain in the ass on the whole.
Looks great - way nicer looking than my Macbook Pro. But if I'd ever buy one, I'd wait til they release one with a screen instead of a MIRROR!
Unfortunately, many of the best encoders are on Windows.

(Don't kill me, I love Mac OS... but I love Windows too!)
Great, now I know not to buy any Belkin products. Thanks for the heads up!
No way, the thing has enough reliability issues when its in its own shell!
When that console inevitably red-rings, he's not gonna be too pleased!
>> Also it's too bad that your eyes can't actually see more than 1080p...

LMAO
Anyone who tries to watch a movie on a portable device needs a good, hard, slap in the face.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!"
