Even without a dataplan, you can do some quick searching using Google (http://www.google.com/intl/en_us/mobile/default/sms.html). Weather, Movie times, Driving directions, Phone numbers, IMDB references, etc. All you need is a texting plan (or the cash to pay as you go).
My wife loves her Latitude X1. 12.1 inch screen, 2.5lbs. In fact, it's pretty much the same specs as most of the laptops avilable today (1.2GB RAM, 1.4MHz processor, etc.). In fact, since it was designed by Samsung, it looks a lot like their current offering. Of course, that drastic price difference is there, too (but considering the 5 year swing, easy to understand).
Seconded! Make it a 4x4 array of these and I'll be set.
I'm pretty sure someone has made a teledildonics device from LEGO bricks already.....if not, it's probably just a matter of time.
Well, if you have AT&T, anyone can send you a text message by knowing your phone number

Send the e-mail to the AT&T wireless phone using the following address format for the AT&T wireless phone number:
10-digit wireless phone number@txt.att.net

Also useful if you wanted some Linux script to notify you when it was complete.....just send an e-mail from the script.
You switch to DARK somber music. Maybe a dirge or a little Goth?
You just need to make sure you don't play any of those resonate notes that shatter glass......ruin a perfectly good light bulb because you used Maxell (?fuzzy memory?)
I'd like to see the vending machine operators push this. Imagine walking up to a vending machine and being able to make a short range wi-fi connection to see whether your selection is in stock. Maybe even see when it was last stocked (I hate getting a drink that's way past it's "best by" date). You could even set up a secure payment option, but I probably wouldn't go that route because it would be too easy to hack that.
My AT&T Fuze is rather loud. I'm a deep sleeper and the alarm does fine for me (coming from a Cingular 8125 -- they are about the same in volume). I did notice that the speaker is on the back and not the sides, so if it is on it's back, the sound is muffled. Turn it over and see if it doesn't wake you up better (just don't put it on anything that will scratch the screen).

My big gripe is that stupid dongle. There is no way I can use that dongle effectively. It doesn't fit anywhere in my car so I can use it there, I can't even put it in a holster or my pocket easily. Just put a headphone jack on the phone again.

Oh, and I'll second / third the glossy black fingerprint magnet sucks.

For those complaining, the phone hardware supports multitouch (video has been around a while), it's the software that doesn't. I just wish they'd release a patch for the software to enable multitouch.
I think I would rather have a portable/tablet computer and the Slingbox client software than to purchase a dedicated Slingbox reciever like this. That way, I could also pop over to the web or launch a game or something when there's nothing good on TV.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I commonly need to boot a system from an external disc and take a snapshot of the host system. I also then need to burn a copy of the image to a DVD. While I can do it with two separate external devices, and two power supplies, and two I/O cables, it'd be nice to find a small dual-drive enclosure. It would need to have USB, eSATA, and FireWire. Either slim-line or half-height bay for the optical burner would be fine, and space for either a 2.5- or 3.5-inch hard disc. Any ideas?"
