They should call themselves 'Orange T'.
@Boards of Canada

What you talking about, its got the same screen as the 15", has a Firewire 800 port, upto 8GB ram and 3.06Ghz cpu; same as 15 and 17". To be fair, It does need dedicated graphics to make it a Pro though. For clarity, how different was the 12" Powerbook to the 15" Powerbook?
Good grief yeah, who's stupid idea was it to plonk it there?

The design wouldn't be that bad if you removed the little targets, they just make it look a mess.
LOL, yours is funnier. Achmid the Dead Terrorist FTW!
I agree, it makes me cringe when other companies call their products 'i' something. Same goes with apps in the app store; what's wrong with just 'Fruit Machine' or 'Fighter'? It just looks and sounds daft if it isn't an Apple Product.

I think other companies should be like apple, but in the sense that they should strive to create something completely original or at least iconic.
Most companies just want to make a quick buck and they'll copy, lie and mash together anything to achieve that.

I think the only company that is on par with Apple is Nintendo, and guess what, everyone is copying them too.

When a company is thinking about making a new product, they should ask themselves 'Can we make a better one of these?' instead of 'Oh look that's making money, lets make one, it don't matter if its crap, someone will buy it'. I understand companies need to make money, but can't they do it with passion? Apple gets that, others see, but they don't understand. They think, if we make products that look like that, people will love them, but that's not the case.

I agree that people have come to expect that certain degree of nuance that Apple provides, but I think it is more the fact that nuance exists, rather than what creates that nuance, If that makes sense, lol.

Basically, other companies need to replicate Apples process, not the result.
1Password FTW! It's awesome, can't surf without it.
You don't get Visual Voicemail or call merging either, so the reasons not to Jailbreak are gone, so it doesn't matter that they're locked to O2.

My contract also runs out in January, I read somewhere that if you don't get a new phone at the end of your contract, you get put on a 'rolling contract' meaning you can upgrade whenever. So I'm gonna wait till the 4th iteration the following June/July, might as well, if they're gonna make me wait 6 months, what are 6 months more?
To be fair, I thought the same, then I researched other carrier's dongle based solutions, what O2 are charging is on par.
It's more the lack of MMS and tethering they're miffed about, we get the no upgrade thing.

Although if you're prepared to add another 2 years on-top of your existing contract, e.g contract ends 3 years from now as apposed to just 1, I don't see why it would be a problem to upgrade.

However, with the rate AT&T are going, they're gonna lose exclusivity, and if/when that happens I guess you don't want to be tied to them.
That's not such a big problem over here in the UK as O2 are a decent network and I don't see me going anywhere for the foreseeable future.
Its not just AT&T that are not allowing 3G customers to upgrade the the S, O2 in the UK are also enforcing this restriction. I can see why, as stated in the article, the 3G was heavily subsidized, but it still sucks. I've made the decision to skip the S and wait for next years iteration. Although, my contract ends January 2010, if they make me renew for another 18 months then, i'm screwed.

As for MMS and tethering, O2 are on the ball with those. Being in the UK, I was able to find AT&Ts inadequacies and the tension from Apple and the crowd in the Keynote shocking but amusing, I guess for you guys though it sucks big time. MMS gonna cost us equivalent of 4 texts though, which is kinda cheeky, you'd think it be included in the Unlimited Data plan, its using the same protocols right? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
