Oh Engadget, why did you invite a political debate with that image....and then gonna tell us you're not Political?
Verizon and others are smelling the rat and realize that in the near future, they won't be able to milk as money money from their customers as they have. For this they're trying to tie up as many customers as they can so they will be afraid to switch.

There are many alternative cell phone deals out there other then the big four, and they know this, that is why everyone is cutting their prices to better compete except for Verizon and AT&T who don't seem to be getting the message.
pork and bacon are different...
The DROID is a nice phone and Verizon's campaign is on target, however I don't see myself dropping my Pre or Sprint for that matter any time soon to get back with Verizon. Had them for six months and while their service was the best I have experienced, I can't justify the $120 I was paying for just 450 minutes, unlimited data and email (Blackberry) and a tethering option and only 250 txt a month to non Verizon users.

At $84 a month I get unlimited everything except calls to landlines. DROID is nice and all but Verizon needs to lower their prices. They have the best customer service and network coverage I have experienced, but that doesn't justify the outrageous prices they like to charge.
I'm already saving my pennies.....
looking pretty slick.....one of the best UI concepts I've seen from Sony in a while.
@ben

People do not buy Windows PC's just because they are cheap, they buy them because they work. Ask all the gamers who use them Secondly one of Microsoft's main selling points of their new campaign is making Windows your own. You can customize a PC, heck you can build it yourself, full LED lights, built into a wall, whatever the hell you want you can get design it.

The whole idea of the Windows store is not to compete with Apple but rather to show people what their Windows systems can do. You know the amount of times people have seen me doing things on my PC and were like "I didn't know you could do that on Windows." Same thing for Xbox, Zune etc.

As for the Republican party...
@Jean P.

You have 30 days....better get a moving...
even though i'm a PC I did find the first Mac commercials funny. However the latest ones (including this) have gotten old....kinda like the "imma let you finish" Kanye West phrase...
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm pretty much a complete noob when it comes to camera stuff. My wife loves to take pictures, though. So much so that she literally wore out her first point and shoot camera, and the Kodak Z712 I bought for her less than two years ago is starting to act up as well. To compound the matter, we are expecting our first born sometime next year. I fear the Kodak just isn't going to cut it any longer. What would be the best starter DSLR to get? She hates missing photo opportunities due to camera 'lag' so speed would definitely be at the top of the list. Photo quality and features would be next. Price should be no more than $800. I'm not interested in video capabilities."
