I've got this app on my iPod Touch (2G) and I love using it, especially in landscape mode. Changing the text and background colour would be a welcome tweak though.

As for the price, I mean really, £2.99 isn't the end of the world - it's about the cost of a price of beer here in the UK.
Nice one. The photoshop made me laugh.
Isn't the idea they control everything, like the iPod/iTunes model?
Because this does everything most people need in a ultra-mobile notebook for £200 that the MacBook Air does for £1200.
I'm with you on this one although realistically I can only see the touch doubling to 32GB - which would be enough for me ... and xvid would be sweet! But we both know Apple will never officially support it. shame.
The MBA is typical apple - it's an elegant, all-in-one solution, which looks amazing but cuts out some expected features and comes at a premium price. Just like the original iMac amazed me I couldn't for the life of me figure out the audacity of taking out a floppy disk drive (the floppy disk drive ... what a piece of annoying technology that outstayed its welcome - thanks Apple for helping to kill it off) - problem was I was just that bit more expensive ... I couldn't afford it.

Now the Air comes out and it's the same feeling - this is the perfect second computer for a CEO like Steve Jobs but there's no way I'm spending this amount of money on one. I think the Air will sell on it's looks ... it will appeal to fashion conscious types, who also want to use it for real work. Like Nokia does fashion phones this is the mobile computer equivalent. The Fashion Laptop.

I don't know if this will be a Cube or an iPod - but it will have a big influence on the industry like the iMac did. I just won't be buying one ... I can only afford an eeePC ;-)
Re: Chewba / Adam

Yes, no doubt Apple will charge (or indeed over-charge) people for replacing the battery and, yes, this thing has limitations (like only 1 speaker!) but, just see it for what it is ... it's not a MBP replacement, it's not a cheap sub-notebook it's a very thin and light Apple fashion notebook which runs OSX. I wouldn't buy it for the same reasons you point out, that doesn't mean a lot of other people won't. In fact I'd get the eeepc too. But if I had the money ...
You didn't think they'd be able to shrink it down to that level and include a traditional brick-type battery inside?

How man people carry two batteries around with them? I've never. If you REALLY need two batteries you should buy another Apple laptop (or something else).
I think Microsoft are out to cripple Sony's consumer products domination, and this is just part of the throw-money-at-anything to wear them (Sony) down strategy. I guess you can see this specific venture as a learning experiment, the money being pretty much written off anyway.

Microsoft know they need to diversify in the face of inevitable change and embrace new 'gateways' 'hubs' 'self-created standards' 'portals' etc, because 'owning one' is like being able to print money.
Isn't this back to the beginning? Ie: WinCE with a keyboard ... the original form factor people tried but the technology wasn't right at the time (crap OS, screen, battery, etc).

Dunno if there's a market for it but I'm after a subnotebook style laptop to play Divx movies on the go & type out short notes. I'm thinking the Asus eeePC has it over this, (I do like the Linux OS too) but what about an eeePC with Win Mobile ... ?

Or maybe Apple with bring out something like this soon and claim to have invented the format ;)
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just moved into a new apartment and have been reading about all of the new power strips out there, especially the green ones. I was wondering if you had any suggestions about which "green "power strips are out there with decent joules ratings. And when I say green, I mean power strips that have the remotes or switches to turn off all electricity flowing to certain plugs and with at least 2 plugs that are always on. I was looking specifically at sub $50 because I will need two, but if that is not possible I could be convinced otherwise. Thanks!"
