Unreliable alarms are probably the number one reason I ditched WinMo five years ago.
It is a scary issue.
Also, I think the comment about Engadget being Droid haters is meant to be ironic. Engadget is so gay for Droid. Compare their Droid coverage to their n900 coverage.
Canonical didn't coordinate this release with Win7. They do major releases of new versions the same times every year: the end of April, and the end of October.
I debated making this a snarky post, but nah, everybody starts somewhere, right?
It does, but it's not as bad as it sounds. You can "make" your own livescribe paper by printing out sheets with their downloadable, barely visible dot matrix.
I tried this a while ago, and what killed it for me wasn't the special paper--it was the lack of simple one-button recording. "You've got to be kidding me. I have a 2GB high quality audio recorder, and I can't turn it on without tapping a special credit card?"
I fare significantly better as a Windows user because I already know how to keep it optimized.
Yet this remains the reason I use Linux for most things--Linux doesn't "atrophy" over time.
True, many of Windows' faults aren't actually its fault--spyware, viruses, and needless background processes will infect any OS with 90%+ marketshare.
But (and forgive me if I misunderstand something) I fail to see why MS remains attached to filesystems that require regular defragmenting, and a registry that is in constant need of tidying up.
Linux and Mac are very "fix-it-and-forget-it" in that respect.
"All of these new nettops have me intrigued. I'm looking for a small, quiet and cheap PC to replace my aging tower in my home office, and all it really needs to do is load Microsoft Office, check email and surf the web. Is there a particular nettop that's better (or a better value) than another? I know it's a rather new segment, but hopefully someone has taken a chance on one already. Thanks!"
