@ipodboy61

I think your name gives you away a bit.

Just sayin.
"When Windows 98 came out every computer store in the country opened at midnight with lines out the door. Did anyone wait in line for Windows 7?"

Welcome to pre-order. Ask Amazon how many copies they delivered on day 1.

XP is an antiquated piece of shit. I hate it. It's full of holes, and is not nearly so stable as 7.

I understand your issue with the lack of quality OpenGL support in Vista and up, but it's not 'broken' - Windows has moved on. Frankly if your vendor hasn't added DirectX support to your 3D applications yet, you should be complaining to them.
I bought two copies of Professional, and I just got a netbook with Starter on it.

My girlfriend bought a 3 pack of Home Premium.

We are both quite pleased.
How much is Sony paying you to post as multiple people on what is a tangentially related story?

Also, replying to your own posts is bad form, man. Bad form!
He can say PGR is 'super smooth' because PGR is, in fact, 'super smooth'. Something must be wrong with your Zune, or your visual cortex, as many people have posted here to confirm the 'super smooth'ness of PGR. 'Super smooth'.

Also, prove you're not ridley182.

Also, in response to one of your other posts - if you're complaining about the sensitivity of the accelerometer, blame that on the app. I've been toying with XNA and it's very sensitive.

'Super smooth'.
"maybe "n00b's" should not buy a macbook pro.."

I thought macs were perfect for n00bs because they 'just work'?

"why would you not replace an battery that doesn't hold a charge longer than 5 minutes.. it's just foolish"

Do you live under a rock? Upwards of 90% of the population is foolish. Count yourself in that group if you actually think that expanding or exploding batteries are in any way acceptable under normal operating conditions.

Even if you're not foolish, not everyone has the free cash to just run out and replace their battery the instant it's not holding a full charge. Will macs even run without a battery, even if it's dead?

"in most cases this happens because of user naïveté, not replacing old batteries or never cycling the battery etc.. "

I'm sorry, but aside from abnormal activity like dipping it in the bathtub, or introducing it to extreme voltage or current, no battery should EVER do this.

How many n00b users do you think regularly cycle their batteries or replace them before they've been totally dead for a few months?
I realize no-one will be forced to use Google's turn-by-turn nav software, and Android's market share isn't anywhere near as dominant as that of Windows in the mid 90s, but how is this different from Microsoft including Internet Explorer for free?

A larger company with huge resources offers a free tool that does real damage to competitors and their ability to compete.
These days CEOs have to be as dodgy as politicians. One wrong word and your stock can take a nosedive.

Also, have you not seen CE Oh No He Didn't?

National debt on 9/30/2000: 5,674,178,209,886.86
National debt on 9/30/2008: 10,024,724,896,912.49

That's a 77% increase in debt in 8 years.

Current national debt as of 23 Oct 2009 at 04:51:47 PM GMT

$11,955,422,209,196.24

Source: http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/

That total includes debt as a result of TARP funds, which were approved by the Bush administration.

If Congress enacts (or enacted, not sure if it has already been approved) the FY2009 Supplemental request as proposed, total war funding would be $935,000,000,000 (which would coincidentally pay for proposed health insurance reforms for the next 10 years)

Current health care plans are all deficit neutral.

The current administration has been by no means fiscally conservative, but at least they have spent money trying to reverse a recession instead of causing one. Deficit spending during a recession can help to blunt its effects. What did deficit spending during the Bush years get us?
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I just moved into a new apartment and have been reading about all of the new power strips out there, especially the green ones. I was wondering if you had any suggestions about which "green "power strips are out there with decent joules ratings. And when I say green, I mean power strips that have the remotes or switches to turn off all electricity flowing to certain plugs and with at least 2 plugs that are always on. I was looking specifically at sub $50 because I will need two, but if that is not possible I could be convinced otherwise. Thanks!"
