A couple did just that this year (carried it on the PCT). Only made it as far as Independence though, and their map page kept resetting everytime they hit a town. Dunno if they were resetting it manually of it the SPOT maps only show the last 6 transmissions. See walk2650.com
there is no Mc desktop for Navman nor Mio. Tom Tom and Garmin both have Mac desktop clients so ou can load maps, and update what ever else they have on there.
They make them for small portable devices so you can enjoy those devices in places you're likely to not have power. Not a lot of people go back-packing with laptops, PS2s (and TVs). But plenty do so with MP3 players, cell phones and digital cameras.
What about putting the solar panels above the table? As a shade for those using it. If I was sitting outside I'd want to be in the shade. That way, so long as it's physically stable (not top heavy) the heat is away from you and your guests and you're not getting sunburned. Everyone's a winner!
This sounds like a game I used to play on the way home from late parties/bars. Get all the way home without making any right turns. Usually worked out fine, sometimes we had to cut through car parks (parking lots). Good times. I've considered modifying our in-car GPSes to try a road trip/scavenger hunt based on such rules.
I don't think you understand teh effort/time involved. Someone may take years to write a book, and someone can photo copy that book in a day. So freaking what? The second guy hasn't achieved anything and couldn't have done it by himself. Apple did nail that one, they designed a beautiful system, and the fact that others are copying it shows they like it.
"I love my little computing companion but I often find myself missing a full sized keyboard. I have been looking at several of these portable and flexible keyboards, but I can't seem to make up my mind about which I should buy. I don't want the keyboard to be overly expensive, but I want it to be good quality. Also, how difficult is it to type on these keyboards? Thanks!"
