Xbox 360 failure rate at 16 percent? {Engadget}

Feb 14th 2008 6:00PM Well, I'm now awaiting my 4th xBox 360. The first one I got very soon after launch and it lasted over a year and a half before the RRoD showed up. After that, I got two replacement units from Microsoft - one lasted a while, the most recent one lasted just 2 months. Everyone raves about the extended warranty - and yeah, I'm grateful for it...but the problem now is that after this next one gets the RRoD, my 3 years will be up... and as much as I love the xBox games, I really don't think I will be paying for another one - at least not until I know for sure that the RRoD problem is fixed. The replacement program is great, but being on xBox #4 is just plain ridiculous. And, NO, I am not "doing anything" to my xBox except playing it! Everyone who boasts they are still on their original xBox and these other people must be "doing something" to keep having the RRoD are idiots. My first xBox worked for a long time too - eventually yours will fail, and if it doesn't, then you're just one of the few lucky ones.

I think it's awesome that they extended the warranty and pay for the shipping, but it's not so awesome when your box fails a week before Halo 3 comes out, as my #2 did, or when it fails one month after you get all your Christmas games, as #3 did. Now the games that I paid $60 for, I could have gotten for a lot less by the time box #4 comes back in the mail (avg. time from when you first call, wait for the box, send it back, and they re-send another one is 6-8 weeks).

I don't like my Wii or my PS3 games nearly as much... but at least they don't break.

A year in Xbox 360 failures: 2007 Edition {Joystiq}

Jan 2nd 2008 1:07PM I'm on my third 360.... I was grateful they extended the warranty - but does the warranty start over each time you get a replacement? I'm guessing not, so once this one dies - and you can be sure it will - I don't know yet if I'll be buying a new one or not buying one at all. I love the system, but it gets ridiculous.

Mine seem to last a little over a year before the RRoD shows up - the last time it happened right before the Halo 3 launch, so I missed that. It took about 3 weeks both times to get it back from Microsoft. I kept the box and padding this last time so I can save time mailing it back the next time. (Just waiting for the dumb box to come takes about a week).

They don't fix your old one (one assumes they don't know how), so they just send you another one from who knows where - and that one ends up dying later too. It's so frustrating!

Spelling out multiple offenses with Ubisoft's Scrabble {DS Fanboy}

Oct 6th 2007 3:54PM Ummm...Matt S.,the guy's daughter wasn't trying to use the word "lesbo." The game has a "help" option if you get stuck, where it will suggest a word for you with the letters you have. The word the GAME suggested was "lesbo."

Either way, I think it's ridiculous to get upset over. The rating should have been made higher - problem solved. And I'm guessing that's what they'll do when they bring the game to the U.S.

Target offers up pink iPod shuffle Special Edition {Engadget}

Sep 26th 2007 6:04PM As I think someone else said, any money donated to charity is a good thing. Would it be nice if people donated money without buying something at the same time? Sure! But a lot of people simply are not going to do that.... but they might buy a pink iPod or a red whatever and then at least a small amount of money will go towards a charity - and when you add up all the small donation, then maybe it ends up being a decent donation.

Also, don't assume that because a compnay sells a "gimmicked" product for charity that they DON'T also dontate substantial amounts to that charity, or others.

Nintendo promises Wii stock boost, says they'll still sell out {Engadget}

Sep 16th 2007 4:33PM I'n in Oregon and Wii's are in relatively short supply here. I got one several months ago because I kept calling the gamestop close to where I work and after the third try, I got one. I have been in there tons of time since then and have heard people calling for one and the employees always report they are sold out - so I think I got lucky (I was the store 5 minutes after they told me thay had 3, and by the time I got there, there was just the one left).

I haven't seen any Wii's on the shelf at Wal-Mart... have not checked the Best Buys. I would guess it's not too hard to get one if you are a little diligent and pick one store and call it most every day. I would do it now though, because I think they will be hard to find over the upcoming holidays - no matter how much they increase supply.

Also have seen some great marketing for the Wii in my area recently - like Wii kiosks in the malls, with 5-8 Wii's set up with employees there monitoring people playing. It is always full of people with more waiting and lots of people asking questions.
