FTC gives green-light for EA's Take-Two buyout {Joystiq}
Aug 20th 2008 4:14PM is it me, or doesn't it seem a little odd that the government announced there is no anti-competitive issues if a merger were to take place PRIOR to any agreement of a merger?
I still say it's not in Take Two's best interested to be acquired by EA. And it will HURT EA financially in the immediate term to take on such an acquisition.
As far as anti-competitive, I think if a merger were announced, people or corporations could still voice concerns to the FTC, and frankly I'd be surprised if they didn't, assuming EA acquires Take Two's sports line. It would give EA rights to major sports franchises and were certainly be anticompetitive.
FTC, shame on you.
As far as Take Two being acquired by SOMEBODY, I think it's inevitable.

Aug 20th 2008 1:19AM "Sony had a invested interest to replace DVD with Bluray due to licensing royalties that they missed out on DVD. Sony didn't have a seat on the DVD consortium, they passed on it to avoid a format war with DVD."
Yes, and no. Sony's created a competing format to DVD, back when DVD was first created. Basically there were two camps-- much like HD DVD and Blu-Ray. At the time, IBM's president negotiated a deal between the two formats to unify. Nobody wanted another VHS and Betamax war. The DVD as we know it today was Toshiba's (et al) design with some of Sony & Philips's technology added. So Sony did have a part in DVD. And Sony was an original member of the DVD Forum, which later became the DVD Consortium. I do believe Sony is paying licensing fees to Toshiba though, as is everyone else.
If you look at Sony, historically, they've never been one to easily embrace other formats when they can introduce their own.
When it came time to design a successor, Toshiba and Sony/Philips squared off again, but this time, Sony had the support of Panasonic (which backed Toshiba the first time around), most major movie player companies, and most major studios of which (cough) Sony owns a few... Columbia (Sony Pictures) and MGM/UA. Toshiba had to rely completely on other studios, but couldn't gather enough support.

Aug 18th 2008 11:51PM Gamespot was a major company prior to the arrival of Larson. Whether or not he played a part in making it bigger is probably debatable. One thing for sure, he certainly managed to tarnish the brand while he was there.
360 Deals: Toys R Us' Xbox 360 BOGO half off and more [update] {Xbox 360 Fanboy}
Aug 17th 2008 6:29PM Yeah, I was a little confused too. Link says "Buy 1 Get 1 FREE sale" while the graphic says "Buy 1 Get 1 Half Price All"
Course when you access the link, it's the latter. Too bad it ISN'T BOGO free.
Fable 2 Pub Games gold exploit discovered {Xbox 360 Fanboy}
Aug 17th 2008 6:21PM Can you get items this way?
I know you can level up quicker, gain concept art, and amass a lot of gold. For items, you have to play the Tournaments, and the amount of gold you have there is pretty much set although there is a buy-in. Some Tournaments, such as Spinnerbox, are completely random and it's only through a lot of repeative play will you gain the items.

Aug 14th 2008 4:55PM I can't imagine EA not presenting this [to Microsoft] as an option for XBLA as well. We're already seen full fledged Xbox games appear on Live, why not brand new games?
Digital distribution... I don't think it's a matter of IF, I think it's just a matter of WHEN.
Aaron Sorkin feels guilty about Studio 60, meets with HBO {TV Squad}
Aug 14th 2008 2:00AM To be frank, I'm glad Studio 60 is gone. Good riddance. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate Aaron Sorkin or his past achievements in TV and film. I just didn't like this series.
Aaron Sorkin feels guilty about Studio 60, meets with HBO {TV Squad}
Aug 13th 2008 6:40PM No one here talked about Studio 60? Are you kidding? I think you guys had way more articles on the show than was necessary.
I like Aaron Sorkin. Loved the West Wing. Hated Studio 60. It just wasn't interesting, nor was it a premise that could be carried over many years. In fact, in many ways, it seemed to be another ill fated attempt to revive a Sports Night-type of program, which was equally executed just as poorly.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Studio 60 even had one or two episodes without all the principles! What show does that?!
I think the only reason Studio 60 lasted as long as it did was because Sorkin was involved. If it were made by anyone else, it would have been yanked much much sooner.
Team Fortress 2 bulks up with whopping Heavy update August 19 {Joystiq}
Aug 13th 2008 4:35PM I bought the PC vesion just to play some of the updates, and felt like a fish out of water. The PC version plays completely differently. I couldn't get proficient with the controls. I guess if you played the game first on the PC, you probably like it there, but I first played the game on the 360. For some reason, it just feels tighter on the 360 control wise.
