I don't know... How much cheaper/faster can these get?
but there are people shoveling snow in midtown all day, at least around where i live
That $250 could be better spent on some baller New Year's Eve parties, or even some random gadgets...
Hmm.. This is weird. Yesterday, all my friends on NYU campus told me their T-Mobile phones had no service starting around noon. My T-Mobile phone got service back around 3pm, while some others didn't get it until later. Text messaging service did not seem to work either.
@David:

I don't think Apple's products are overpriced for their features, it's just that you may not want everything that's offered in their products. Apple is good at selling their products by making you buy things (or features) you didn't need but are nice to have.

For example, MBP is the only macbook that offers a more powerful GPU, an expresscard slot, and a bigger screen.

So if you need just any one (or more) of those features that are only available on the MBP, you are kind of forced to buy the extra features that you didn't need in the first place (on top of the ambient sensor, backlit keyboard, isight camera and IR sensor).
How is its battery life? I think MBA would average out to be ~2-4 hours under normal day-to-day usage, under OSX.

Let's also have both machines run the same tasks under XP/Vista, and compare their battery life.
I was doing my christmas shopping at a circuit city around mid-december, and saw the "new" 80GB PS3 without motorstorm. I asked 1 of the salespersons there, he said as soon as the old ones run out that's what they'll sell.
you never need the optical drive in your apple notebook for anything, except for the dvd player app bundled with osx, and the dvd playback feature in front row... otherwise you can always get a faster, cheaper external optical drive.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm heading to university next year, and I've purchased a MacBook. I'm also taking my four year old desktop, just in case I'm left with no computers when the MacBook is being repaired or whatnot. With only two USB ports on a MacBook, I want a Bluetooth mouse. Budget is about $100, and of course, it needs OS X support. Thanks for the help!"
