Not to doubt you, but AT&T has done EVERYTHING possible to nickle and dime iPhone accounts for everything they can charge for (and treat them differently than every other phone they have ever carried). Their website still specifically lists all of their iPhone Text Plans as SMS messaging only (including the Unlimited plan for an individual line, which costs $20/month). The only messaging plan I can find for the iPhone that states it includes text, photos, videos, and instant messaging is their Family Unlimited Messaging Plan ($30/month/group).

I'm going to wait until AT&T clarifies this officially. I was hoping they had, but they didn't think that annoucing the availability of MMS would inspire questions of cost (because they don't want us to think about it). Make any assumptions and you just might pay for it.
Anyone know how AT&T will charge for this? Will it fall under the data plan (not likely at all), will the text plans be changed to include MMS messages, or will there be a new category? I looked all over the AT&T site and couldn't find any details.
I'd love to use metric here in the states, but it would take a while to get used to.
Oh, me, please!!!
@Brad Green:

I'd sincerely hope that Palm (which I still have one of their Palm T|X PDAs, so I really like the company) isn't considering releasing an update less than 90 days from the initial release. They will have every single immediate adopter wanting to kill them. If this is an indication of anything other than Best Buy wanting to ramp up some extra income for a week, it's a pre-cursor to real problems. I've never heard sales numbers on the Pre, but I assume they're nowhere near one million, REPEAT NOWHERE NEAR, and I'm not a fanboy. No matter what, it means that Best Buy has way too many Pre units eating up money and warehouse space, which is not a good indicator of initial unit sales. I know a lot of people went to Best Buy, instead of getting theirs at Sprint, to avoid having to wait for a mail-in $100 rebate.

...and thus, if this is something other than Best Buy just trying to clear some inventory (and make some cash on comissions with a short sale), marks the beginning of the end of Palm and the Pre along with it, no matter whether a new version is coming so soon, it's not selling, or whatever.

It will be interesting to see what initiated this price drop at Best Buy and if it will be replicated at Sprint stores.
I'll take it. Not sure what for yet, but might be building a media server of sorts for the home theatre. Could make a nice wireless keyboard/mouse combo...
To hell with new features, fix what's there first. All I can say is that it better resolve the damn Wi-Fi signal drops.

Every time I seem to look, while I'm waiting for a web page to load, it's dropped the signal in my house. I never had this problem before 3.0 and it is horrible. Getting it to find the Wi-Fi signal isn't even just a step-by-step process. Sometimes, going into Settings --> General --> Wi-Fi will pull it up, other times I have to keep turning Wi-Fi on and off, others I have to keep turning the Ask to Join on and off. It's a ROYAL PAIN in the rear. I use my iPhone in Wi-Fi covered areas a lot and this is a MAJOR problem.

I can only imagine what the iPod Touch users are feeling when they don't even have a 3G/Edge signal to fall back on when their Wi-Fi signal drops.
This problem existed with v2.79 of the firmware (or whatever was before v2.80). I hadn't turned on my PS3 in a little while, so I checked it before doing the v2.80 update. Hulu gave me the same error. Their content providers don't want PS3s having it, just like they didn't want Boxee (but Boxee found a work-around). It's a waste of time, especially knowing when they know that content-serving apps, like Boxee, can find work arounds. I really think they'd want their ads and content on as many places as possible.

But, then again, they're going to be putting a price on this service sometime soon. It's just a matter of when (which will probably be when the content is thickened up some more). Not just premium content, either. The whole sha-bang! Direct sites will continue to be free, but if you want the covenience of having all of the sources in one place, you're gonna pay. It's that simple. This is a whole new model of distribution and money has to be made somewhere. However it shakes out, I hope it's a fair one and one that makes some sense.

Time Warner was smart enough to realize that bandwidth metering wasn't the answer and they stopped. I hope, as television moves more and more to the internet, that it will done so in a way that we, as users, can live with. Television, as we know it, isn't going away. It's just not going to be the only kid on the block. Revenue sources have to be figured out for each model, both traditional TV and via the internet. We've got an interesting few years coming up. And there are a lot of players involved in this, from the media companies, to MSOs, to satellite providers, to local TV stations, and from the marketing sources...just to name a few. It's really, really going to be interesting! Hang on for the ride!
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm in the market for a new phone and money isn't a limitation. I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!"
