AT&T's towers are already inoperable when "working."
You're right, in Southern California it doesn't make any sense to pick AT&T's lack of cell coverage, spotty 3G service and inflated prices over another carrier. iPhone is a great device, no doubt, but AT&T is easily the worst carrier, at least where I am.

I would've had an iPhone last year if not for AT&T. But I pay half of what I would with the iPhone plan, so I'm glad they made it an easy choice by sucking so badly.
I had 2 discountable SERO plans, paying less than $20 a month for each and was a little disappointed the Pre wouldn't be on SERO. However, I didn't whine and complain because it would be a bad (stupid) business move to subsidize this phone on a $30 a month plan.

I sold the SERO lines and I now pay 110/month for 3 Palm Pres. Worth every penny and I no longer have to worry about a phone not working on my plan like on the cheapie plan.
That's something to ponder since Apple gets a cut on the plans.

The two big things that kept me from getting an iPhone were the network and the pricing structure. I can easily afford ~$85 a month(w/ unlimited texting), but why pay that when there are real alternatives now at ~$50 a month on a faster, more reliable network?
Windows flags??? I see Jesus.
@Paul

I assume that question is for me since I was talking about Pandora.

Yes, I did download Pandora first, which is under 300KB. Admittedly, my checkout time was about 20 minutes, but I was playing with the phone the whole time. By the time I got out, I had my email, tweed and pandora (with 2 channels) set-up, without having to close anything (as well as my contacts transferred from my Touch Pro).
I stand corrected, you can get Pandora to play in the background on an iPhone with the Backgrounder hack.

I got the same results on my Pre before they had run my credit card.
Facepalm.

Sure, multi-tasking is a negative feature and when the iPhone finally implements it, it will be revolutionary. /sarcasm

I'd much rather wait for a webpage to take an extra 2-5 seconds to load and do something else, like check my Twitter or send a text, than be stuck waiting for something to load.

A perfect example of this happened to me just an hour ago while I was at the Apple Store. I loaded Pandora but it took literally over two minutes and I gave up. My choices were stand there staring at the screen while it loaded or exit the app completely. With my Pre, I just open it and go back to my email, webpage, or whatever else. I really don't know why it took so long to load Pandora and it probably usually loads much faster but in this case it was just a reminder of the iPhone's biggest shortcoming.
@ Paul

If Apple pays you to make these posts, you are doing a fine job.

If you have no affiliation with Apple and you come here to post comment after comment, while up Apple's ass, that's pretty sad.

For your sake, I hope you realize sooner, rather than later, that you only get one life and the time you put into all these pro-Apple posts is a waste of your life.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I'm pretty much a complete noob when it comes to camera stuff. My wife loves to take pictures, though. So much so that she literally wore out her first point and shoot camera, and the Kodak Z712 I bought for her less than two years ago is starting to act up as well. To compound the matter, we are expecting our first born sometime next year. I fear the Kodak just isn't going to cut it any longer. What would be the best starter DSLR to get? She hates missing photo opportunities due to camera 'lag' so speed would definitely be at the top of the list. Photo quality and features would be next. Price should be no more than $800. I'm not interested in video capabilities."
