'Militant atheists' up in arms over Spore's sim-religion {Joystiq}

Aug 12th 2008 8:44AM You just have to spend some time on Reddit to learn what Militant Atheists are like.

I'm an Atheist but I respect people's right to believe in what they want so long as they don't force their views upon me. Someone who believes in a god isn't a lesser person than me, they're not stupid and they're not delusional. Yes there are extremists in every religion but there are extremist Atheists too, the people foam at the mouth when they see the word "god" in any public office, who find it amusing disrupting religous services and so on.

Tesla Roadster takes 30 hours to charge from a standard wall socket {Engadget}

Jul 7th 2008 11:44AM It's all well and good that a new build house may have a good main circuit tested for 80A but in the UK it's not uncommon for people to be living in houses that have been around since WW2 (heck my house even has a stone larder and an outdoor toilet). A lot of people have fairly old electrical circuits that won't have experienced an 80A draw for any length of time. A good number UK circuit breakers will pop out at 100A (and there will be a reason why they're rated such).

Would you want to go to sleep in a house with potentially old wiring at near full capacity?

Jul 7th 2008 3:43AM This thing draws 70A? That's pretty much more than any appliance you'll have in your house. Something drawing up to 15KW will have a major effect on most household circuits, not only could it cause a fire for any plug outlets not directly wired to the main circuit with thick cabling, I'd imagine most fuses and circuit breakers will have a problem with a sudden draw that size. I wouldn't trust leaving this on overnight, especially in a house with old electrics...

You can't even get cabling safe for 70A draws in most DIY places around here.

Nov 7th 2007 1:42PM big of a shame about the buttons, makes it look a bit like a chinese knockoff but other than that it looks fairly sexy

More details on Sony's new PlayTV {Engadget}

Aug 22nd 2007 2:27PM No doubt they'll make us pay through the nose for this or this is what we get instead of a price reduction. It's never a good time to be an EU customer of a Sony product.

It's also apparently Sky compatible which will be interesting to see how it'll work without a card slot.

iPhone briefly shows up on Amazon UK with price, date {Engadget}

Jul 6th 2007 5:54PM To read too much into this : Amazon don't do contract phones I believe so that would be the PAYG price

Australian develops diminutive wind turbine for household energy {Engadget}

Jul 3rd 2007 8:16AM What kinda power does this get? anything under 1kw typical would be a waste of time. Also seems to rely on wind blowing a certain way

Credit Suisse: Vodafone likely to carry (3G?) iPhone in Europe {Engadget}

Jun 27th 2007 10:51AM Vodafone do a package where the total cost of the 18month contract is £575 for an N95 (phone is 'free'). If the prices do come across I'd rather get the N95 and spend the money saved on a laptop

Credit Suisse: Vodafone likely to carry (3G?) iPhone in Europe {Engadget}

Jun 27th 2007 8:14AM reasons why Apple need to get their act together to launch in the EU.

1: Video and picture messaging are a fairly big feature here, people want it.

2: 3G is something expected from an expensive phone, as are a wide selection of games and software.

3: accessable sim slot is a must.

4: people will not pay £300 for a phone that then requires a £30 a month contract here.
