I agree with other reader's comments about how great subscription services are. Totally worth the small monthly fee. After trying it, I'm not likely to go back to paying by the track, or paying by the album. And not likely to buy CDs either.

And I'd love to get a new flash memory player each time I sign up for, say, another 12-months subscription. The model makes sense.
Apple had a lot to do with setting up widespread DRM in the first place - and I'm sure had no choice but to do so. It's fitting that they're taking the lead in dismantling it.

This is a very good trend - for iPod, Zune, and for music lovers everywhere.

Nice package from Toshiba.

Note: "...share your audio collection with your car audio system or any other DAP equipped with an FM receiver -- pretty much all of them these days."

... well, with the notable exception of iPod - one of the last holdouts to making music sharing easier.

"LS2/LS7" is not understanding how Zune wireless works. A Zune can detect any other Zune players within wireless range - there's no need for the other players to "select receive first". All they have to have is the wireless option turned on.

Also: jackryan - the "3 mile radius" was a wry joke from engadget. Zunes can only detect other Zunes that are within wireless range - about a 30 foot radius.
Kudos to TVWatcher for filling this gap!! This really should have been integrated into Zune from the get-go.

Zune works great for music, but the video side needs to catch up quickly.

Apologies, my mistake. The hack is against the Zune FM transmitter kit - not the Zune player itself.
Note: that hack is to improve the FM receiver - not transmitter. The Zune does not have a built-in FM transmitter.

That's a ways away, but at least it's finally CONFIRMED..!!

It looks really interesting, and I'd like to try one out. I do like the Zune's user interface better, at least from those screen shots. But it's great to see another design team's results in creating a wireless capability.

I got excited about this until I saw the price tag. $250 for a 4GB music player?

Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I love my little computing companion but I often find myself missing a full sized keyboard. I have been looking at several of these portable and flexible keyboards, but I can't seem to make up my mind about which I should buy. I don't want the keyboard to be overly expensive, but I want it to be good quality. Also, how difficult is it to type on these keyboards? Thanks!"
