I believe the car will weigh more than 26 kg (or 57 lbs). If you read the story you've linked to, it says the engine alone weighs 26 kg. Also I think it's 100 miles per Imperial gallon, not US gallon so the fuel economy will be less.
I think this is justified. As a college student I frequently am walking behind a student that smokes and have to breathe that stuff in. It's harmful for the people that smoke and the people who are unlucky enough to be around them. Now I can understand why some students and some professors wouldn't like it, but it's for the greater good.
It seems to me that he is avoiding the simplest solution to this problem - actually turn off all of your devices and lights before you leave the house. We really don't need another device just to turn off our electrical equipment for us. This is the epitome of laziness.
How about some good old fashioned elbow grease. It seems like everyday more and more of our utensils are becoming electrified in order to save us time and energy. We live in a world of electric toothbrushes, electric knives, and even electric pepper mills. But it wasn't that long ago that we did all our everyday activities without electricity. Our refrigerators were ice boxes, we did our dishes by hand, we swept the floor, etc. And in this modern age of convenience, I think it is important to remember that the most important "gadget" of all is a little bit of good old fashioned elbow grease.
I wish I could give this a go, but I live in an apartment complex and I don't have a balcony or anywhere else I'm allowed to do this.
LED bulbs last 6x as long as CFLs? My CFLs last somewhere between 7 and 8 years according to the packaging. Now, that would mean that an LED bulb would last 42-48 years. Can that be right?
It is quite strange isn't it that the right sees Al Gore as THE leader of the environmental movement. Maybe it's just me, but I really don't think the movement has a leader, and if it did it certainly wouldn't be Al Gore.

I also think it is totally unfair to blame Mr. Gore for the global food crisis, as not even Mr. Gore has that much power.
I'm wagging my finger at you, hopefully those bags will be recycled in some way.
Good thing I live in Florida.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I own an iPhone 3G and I'm looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it's powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn't have an alarm clock feature. It's no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I'm not sure. Thanks!"
