I don't get it -- they DID offer a full version as I understand it, just not the very latest (actually it was, but not for long).

This is common -- PC mags often give away slightly older versions of major software for free, so a heavily discounted version is nothing surprising and still seems fair to me.
Yes and the lag between dragging the stylus across the screen and a line appearing is fairly poor. Also note the tiny onscreen keyboard (very fiddly) and the trouble he has opening menus...

Absolutely - a bigger display is the only thing you need these days to turn a laptop into a desktop. Plus have extra connections so you can have your external storage permanently connected to it, and have the whole thing work through the express port...

Sounds good to me. Would depend on the price though.
Texting while driving is stupid and shouldn't happen... but what about similar activities, such as map reading? Even glancing at a GPS can be similarly dangerous -- where is the line drawn?
Actually, this is bad for sharing with Windows users because of the .DS_Store files and resource forks that they'll be exposed to.

I prefer to just use CleanArchiver, though there are a number of other alternatives (many free).
So THAT's what was causing my wifi problems! Ah well, I already switched to homeplug. Wish I'd switched years ago, I've never had such a trouble free network installation!

That's actually pretty simple for what it does (remembering that it includes EVDO, two displays, etc).
Seems a bit odd to be comparing the Kindle to the iPhone -- completely different devices, different purposes, different markets, different... everything?

And as someone already said, 256MB is a lot for books... and really utterly irrelevant to this news item.
Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"With all the new multitouch capable monitors coming out, which one is the best? With the release of Windows 7 I really want a touchscreen monitor for my desktop. I'm looking to get a Full HD monitor that supports multitouch and can still look great during gaming and movies. Which one has the best specs for the price?"
